 Prisoner of LoveINSPIRATION OF THE Month June 2009 Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus said to His disciples: "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father." According to the Oxford Dictionary of Idioms, 'the salt of the earth' is now used to describe 'a person or persons of great kindness, reliability or honesty.' There are many seasonings in use today, but salt has long been a staple in cooking. But did you ever think of you being 'the salt of the earth'? When we touch another life, in any way we leave something of ourselves. In that way, we are a seasoning to the lives of others, and glorify our Heavenly Father. In the same way, we can be a light unto others. We all are familiar with lighthouses. They set on land to show ships where there is danger. We can all be like a lighthouse to others. When we help others in some way, we can be a light unto their path. When I say "help others," it doesn't have to be a physical way, like helping them move or something. It may be nothing more then a friendly word, smile or just being nice to someone who is having a bad day. LET US PRAY: Lord, it is not easy for us, Your lowly children, to recognize what we can do to be a light or the salt of the earth to others. Thank You for being there for us.
