move 27
I really thought we had a winning position here, but the more I look at it
now and think about arrakis and sk's analysis, the more I think we're in
trouble, and that ......Qh7 is our best chance here.

confusion
I am confused and uncertain, so rather than vote, I am going to abstain. A possible move that
is unique to consultation games.

Move 27
At the risk of being thought a fool, I'd like to propose move 27...Qg8, as being the better move.
I'm sure the other members of our club may have their own excellent suggestions, as well...

Move 28
28...0-0? Does anyone out there see a castle in the near future for black? Just curious...
johnclark
16-Sep-09, 20:53

Take the castle!!!
I think taking his castle should be our focus. bxc4 is a good start. Maybe Kd7 with the intent to better position our king side rook might work.

move 28
To further our attack against his Q-side, I like bxc here, and then perhaps Rb8 (after his Qxc4).
cadavre-opa-
17-Sep-09, 09:46

28... Kd8
As I said previously, next move should be 28... Kd8

Expecting something like 29.cxb5 axb5

Previously, I said I wasn't too sure about move 30 from our opponent, offering either 30.Qc2 or 30.Nh5. I'm still not certain which way he'll go, so I think planning in both directions would be good.

30.Qc2 -> we're likely to go either Rb8 or b4 I'd have thought.
30.Nh5 -> probably Qg6

Sorry, a post was made while I was typing my last response.

28...bxc4 is a poor choice. Atm, I believe we still have a slight advantage, after bxc4 the advantage would be lost and we'd have to start looking for the draw (which is not out of the question even after 28...Kd8)

28...bxc4 29.Qxc4

1) 29... Rb8 30.b3 Qxh6 31.Qa4+ c6 32.dxc6
2) 29... O-O 30.Rg1 Qxh6 31.Rxg4+ Kh7 32.Rg3

move 29
Do we have other decent options besides axb?
cadavre-opa-
21-Sep-09, 11:51

Move 29
Realistically, no. We've got to play 29... axb5.

After that it becomes complicated. I've settled on White playing Qc2, which I think is a stronger move than Nh5 but it could still go either way.

After 30.Qc2, we can begin looking at b4 or Rb8. If I'm wrong and he goes Nh5, I think Qg6 is probably the best bet, but I haven't gone far down that line of thought yet.

I've looked it over and I think we're in trouble. Best bet I think is to go 30...Rb8. I'm thinking he'll probably go 31.Ne2 after that which we can follow up with 31...Rb7.

The other option is to go 30...Ra7, but we'll lose the pawn after 31.Bxb5 and end in a similar position after 31...Rb7.
pennsylvaniadan
24-Sep-09, 17:29

I think our best option right now is to advance our pwn to b4. We can hope he does take it with his black bishop but I don't think he will because we would be free to take his pwn on the h6 square with our Queen. Then we move our Rook to b8. This will at least by us a little time to keep him from putting his bishop on a5 threatening our King. Then I think we are going to have to do something radical like take his Knight with our bishop to free up some maneuvering room.

Move 30...
We've already moved Kd8 so it's not possible to castle now. How about considering Rb8 now?
