G'day
Hey everyone

Ben from Melbourne Australia. Starting learning when I was four, never really knew what I was doing, up until around 14 where i joined a club and started playing in tournaments from 16. A recent subscribed member to GK, and I am enjoying the membership. One of my fav players is Paul Morphy, he was an absolute genius and enjoy running through past games of his.

Hello
Glad to be the newest member of this club (as well as the newest member of team Morphy). I am Mark, California (USA) native, currently living in Nor. Cal. I have been playing chess since Jr. High, but not much OTB lately as my busy schedule only allows for GK correspondence play. I look forward getting to know you all and having some good chess discussions.

Hi! Y'all can call me Izzy.

I'm from the Northwest corner of the US. I'm an old coffeehouse blitz and weekend tournament player, but new to online and correspondence chess. I used to be 1900ish USCF, but haven't played a rated game in years.

Morphy was an awesome player we can still learn from, and his influence definitely shows in the games of Capablanca and Fischer, but I relate more to Botvinnik, Tal and Seirawan.

Hey Everyone
I'm the newest member of the group. Atleast I think I am.

I'm love the game of chess and everything that goes with it. So, I'm glad to be joining in here to read what everyone else things.

I do play OTB chess and I'm working on increasing my play. I would like to be an Expert before I die, but who knows.

Well, have fun everyone...

Welcome madik, this is a great site to help you reach your goal! I would play you a game but I see from your ratings I would probably just embarrass myself lol.

Introduction
I started playing when I was eight, my older brother never showed me any mercy. I played on a junior high school team during the time when Fisher was gaining his fame. I joined a local chess club in Lakeland, FL, in the late eighty's and have dozens of Chess Life (1990 era) magazines that I read, though not really study. One of my favorite GM is A. Alekhine {1892-1946}, although I don't play his style, I love his. I seem to make many blunders, on other chess sites maybe gameknot will slow me down and improve my game.

Hi and thanks for having me!
I just joined a few days ago and look forward to participating in the Forum and playing some (faster) games when I get out of the Slower Ladder... Am unemployed for the first time in 35 years so I am spending all day online mixing job search with mental gymnastics like Chess and Scrabble. I live in the middle of the US in the Kansas City area.

Thanks again!

Pride and Sorrow...
Congratulations on such a thriving and well recognized club. Thank you for accepting me, thank you to Charles ( caknight) for the leading me in the right direction. Great club name! Paul Morphy was an interesting figure in chess. A "great", and yet sorrowful finish. He finally died in the bathtub from a severe change in body temperature...at 47 years old!

I am the club founder of the Club for Chess Openings. It was a club I started after the demise of a previous "Chess Openings Club". We have over 200 members and still hover in the top ten most active clubs.

I am a member of the team Yeshua's Army. I was a captain for about a year, but many of you know the demands of time required to walk that path. Now, I simple settle for the team's coach. It is a role I truly enjoy...because I learn more when I help others!

I play in OTB USCF sanctioned tourneys. I use the same username at Chess.com, RedHotPawn.com, Chessgames.com, BabasChess, etc. I have a pretty good library of books, a ton of links to internet chess locations, much enthusiasm and drive...I fully expect to hit a master rating in two to three years. Okay...it is good to have goals though...

I primarily use gameknot's community for the study of openings and their positional consequences. Therefore, I play mostly in thematic tourneys which is what Charles hit on here a Paul Morphy's Club.

Personally, I am a caregiver for my Dad. He will turn 92 this year. He was a Harvard Grad, 38 years with GE, and lost his wife a year ago. He is very apt, still drives, and is a life master at bridge. Still plays weekly and adds to his silver points. Tomorrow is Father's Day. We will watch Dr. Charles Stanley together in the morning...

Happy Father's Day...thanks for the club...joe

Hi everybody
Hey everybody,

Thanks for letting me join this club, I'm Ardin and I'm 14 years old and I come from the Netherlands.
I hope this site helps me strengthen my play and that's also the reason why I joined this club. Also because I like to learn about chess history.
As you can see by my rating I am just an amateur, but I hope things will change sooner or later.
I sometimes play OTB tournaments in my region.

I hope this club is what I expected from it, but I don't have much doubts.
Bye for now,
Ardin

Hi everyone
Hey everyone,
I'm glad to be part of this club. I started playing chess in high school and I really love the game now. I have seen a couple of Morphy's games and I wouldn't mine studying up on more of his playing style. I would say that my skill level is around intermediate and i would really like to fully develop my chess style. If anyone wants to discuss anything about chess or wants to play a game just shoot me a message.

Thanks
Thanks for posting that johnclark and welcome rook2rook. 'The Pride And Sorrow' of chess has always been an inspiration to me as well. In the poker world where I live from time to time a kindred spirit may have been Stu Ungar. I've always been fascinated by these brilliant brilliant men (and women) who with their great gifts and talents had to also fight inner demons and turmoil. 'The pride And Sorrow' so aptly describes these giants ...

Hello
In grade school I played chess in the library every day while I waited for my bus to arrive. There I not only developed a love for the game but also an elementary understanding of its principles.

In college I didn't play much chess, but was very successful at CEDA debate. In order to win a debate you usually have to be pretty well researched/thoughtful so I don't often make statements that I can't back up with facts or sound logic.

More reciently, I spent a lot of time posting to MSN message boards, but they eventually closed down. I am happy to find this website has its own forums since it obviously is loaded with intelligent people representing what I would assume would be a diversity of opinions.

BTW: My real name is Kevin, I call myself PecosBill since that is my dog's name.

Hello
I'm not a very good chess player but I do my best... My greatest chess memory was playing in a
simultaneous display against Anatoly Karpov in '92. I'm also a chess tournament books collector.
A bientôt.

Welcome, Brigadecommander!
I extend a hearty welcome to brigadecommander to Club Morphy. Brigadecommander is an ardent fan and student of the great Alexander Alexandrovich Alekhine and will manage the Alekhine thread(s) and activities as a club moderator. And she's not too shabby of a player, either.

Fondest greetings to you all!

I'm Karl and I come from Wales in the UK. I only recently took up chess as a hobby six months ago while hibernating in the south of France (Welsh winters are too ghastly to bear), but am a keen player with a genuine desire to learn and improve. In addition to chess my interests include politics, wargaming, camping & game design.

hello everyone
Hi,
I'm Christopher. I've played chess very casually off and on for years but just started getting
into it seriously last fall. I joined GameKnot in December and have learned a lot through playing
and reading a few books on chess since then. Some of the posts here seem quite interesting,
and I'm looking to learn.
thanks
