Some bad ideas for club growth / participation
One of the KOH Club's biggest disappointments was its scholarship program. This initiative awarded a one-year paid membership to current, non-premium GK subscribers. The awards were to be made to individuals nominated by the club's members who were determined to by worthy of an award by the club's moderators. However, less than 1% of the membership participated in the program. In fact, the first award recipient was the only person nominated, and one of our moderators nominated him. Moreover, with the exception of $10, I have funded the cost of the program for its 4 recipients. The last award will be made this fall. All award recipients were the result of a single nomination. Needless to say, this incentive proved to be a faulty one.

Membership Drive
While our membership drive increased the KOH Club's new member population by 40%, I consider the drive to be a disappointment as only four (4) members participated. The winner of the contest was to receive a one-year, paid membership extension. One of the club's moderators indicated his interest in increasing the membership without regard to the "prize," which is a testament to the devotion and efforts put forth by our moderators. The most successful individual wanted his new members to count toward another member. Needless to say, the benefactor of this generous person "blew the competition away!" Since he is a Platinum member, his award cost me a full $59.50, the amount of which I would have considered irrelevant excepting the fact that so few members participated in the drive.
