![]() They're very very active: we play consultation games, we discuss openings and even other topics , not necessarily only chess. Perhaps, here we're too much dedicated to play team games... Paolo |

![]() two things concern me though. 1. Couldn't the opposition team read your forums and see what your ideas are. 2. Do the best ideas come from the stronger players because they can move the pieces about the board better than weaker players. The upshot of this may be that the weaker player never contributes or gets involved in the game. Perhaps my thoughts are daft. Tell me if I'm wrong. Ian. |

![]() Normally the purpose is to learn and improve chess play : that's the reason why normally we have a strong player (over 2000-2100, possibly CM) vs a club. The c. game are not rated because of the 'teaching' nature. Some simple rules: game is unreated, moves are discussed in a single forum post, a limit is set for moves (number of moves of days) and a moderator is in charge to check on this and do the move. Anybody can partecipate the discussion, any time. When 3 similar move suggestions are made the moderator do the move. It's fairplay people belonging to both clubs don't look at posts in the forum !! There's no weaker player: anybody can give their own contribute; the moderator checks when 3 (or more, just decide) identical moves are made then stops discussion, do the move and wait for opponent move. Very simple. And really usefull. |

![]() I hope many of us join this initiative. Rule and steps proposal to conduct a consultation game. 1. start an unrated game The c.g. starts by challenge someone (this way only you can set a game as unrated). Even if this is optional, having an unrated board available with a link allows the participants to link to the game for the purpose of using the "Analyse program" feature. In addition, it makes it a lot easier to have a current board available when getting the FEN/PGN notations for posting position diagrams for discussion on the forums; also, a current board is an efficient way to notify the other side of your move and that it's now their move. Suggestion: it's better and quicker to start out with the structure of a thematic or position to skip preliminary discussion on opening preferences. 2. choose the moderator Someone on has to be designated to post the position on the forum, conduct the discussion, tally the votes and keep the game board current. If the consultation game is within the club, one person can be designated to moderate the both sides of the board; When we play different clubs, then we can just leave it up to the other side as to how they deliver their moves. 3. start the forum post Club (and team) forums are the most efficient way for members to communicate. 4. coordinate with the opponent/moderator One of the benefits of maintaining an unrated game board is that it communicates to each side moves made and whose turn it is. We could start a test consultation game within the club. A member of the club should propose him/herself as a challenger who will play against the club. He/she guarantees he/she is not looking at the forum discussion post to see what discussions are taking place and what moves are going to be made by the group.... The unrated game is started as a challenge vs a member of the team who can also act as moderator. e.g., i can propose myself for this test if nobody else and Ian (just_williams) could be the moderator. Anybody can join the discussion at any time, leave it as well and get back later. Ian will take care of moves and after 3 identical ones he will post the move on the unrated gameboard. note about the post: i suggest a structure like: 1. move suggestion, 2. move discussions, 3. move final vote. Your thought ? Paolo |
