Love?
I have often thought of love in a cynical way, is it merely a biological response that befuddles us? Is there more to it?

Can one be completely cognitive about love?

It is interesting to view it in terms of increased life expectancy and a heritage of polygamy. Is monogamous love natural?

It's hard to imagine the emotion of "love" and the many other near-exclusive emotions of man being merely a function of our seemingly inadequately complex brains. -- Could this be another one of those God things?

I am the opposite, I can imagine it being a product of physiology. I don't ascribe it to god, that is certain.

source of confusion
IMHO, there is much confusion created by the mistaken romantic notion that love is something that happens to
you; when in reality it is something you do. It's properly though of as a verb rather than a state of being.

I make my claim based on 40 years of successful marriage, while watching most of my contemporaries come
and go through multiple divorces.

That I agree with. I think there is a hormonal soup that complicates matters somewhat, mainly
initially, but true love is an act of will and a mind set that you use too determine your own
behaviors day to day.

The Language of Young Love: The Ways Couples Talk Can Predict Relationship Success
ScienceDaily (Jan. 25, 2011) —

www.sciencedaily.com

We know that people tend to be attracted to, date, and marry other people who resemble themselves in terms of personality, values, and physical appearance. However, these features only skim the surface of what makes a relationship work. The ways that people talk are also important. A new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, finds that people who speak in similar styles are more compatible.

Ties in with this discussion somewhat.
