I was a member of the Bible Club but got kicked out. LOL. And I quit Neutral Ground after Thumper kept censoring my posts. Some conservatives are such triggered snowflakes when it comes to free speech.

Honestly the only reason I joined the Bible Club was to defend evolution. People there kept attacking it, and I just wanted to point out how sound the science is. I have no issue with religion. I just note that the Dalai Lama points out if your religion is refuted by reality, you are better off abandoning the bits that just don't work.

Evolution happened. If you want to believe God guided its course, why amen! But insisting our world ain't but 6000 years old because you don't understand allegory is simply unsupportable.

You can see why I got booted from the Bible Club. I came this close to getting kicked out of Sunday School as a kid. Questions aren't really as welcome as you might think.

I was denied membership to the Coffee House for many years, but they finally relented and let me in. Great conversations there! Proginoskes runs a very good club.

I was also a member of Fiat Lux, and a moderator there, both times. Stalhandske is fair and balanced and asks wonderful questions for both sides of any issue. He has a keen and disciplined mind, which probably explains his chess rating.

Titor
I heard of a guy claiming to be from the future, who made a number of predictions--a few eerily accurate. Posted in some online social media, as I recall. Possibly the same guy.

I have read a number of Turtledove's books, but not the Guns of the South. Have you sold many books?

My Book
Not yet, still getting the word out. I hope to get into a couple local Barnes and Nobles, and some other small book stores. It takes time, since I'm an unknown quantity.

If you ever get a chance to research Titor, it's a pretty interesting read. I've read his entries, and some commentator's that are pro and against. I'm unconvinced either way. It would be neat if time travel is possible. However, if he is right and you cannot return to your own time/universe/dimension I wonder how many would try it. It kind of reminds me of Sliders, which explored this theme.

Are you a movie buff? If so, did you see Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets? And what did you think about it?

Clubs
You certainly are busy. I don't have enough time to be in that many.
People can become pretty entrenched in their ideas and become very antagonistic when challenged. Politics and religion have always been hot topics with polarizing points of view. It would be nice if we could have a dialogue without emotions inciting turmoil; but, until we become like Vulcans, I guess we will continue to argue and feud over issues.

Oh
I LOVE bringing emotions into it though.

"How do you FEEL about the fact your mother was a primate, with hair covering her entire body, who nursed her young in the manner of all other placental mammals before her?"

Yeah, let's drag your mum into it! LOL.

Valerian
I didn't see it.

I bet the art work must have been interesting.

Valerian
It was and I highly recommend it. The film is complex and in places shows two different realities simultaneously. What aggravates me about people in regards to movies is they complain about Hollywood not producing new material, just a lot of retreads. Yet, when they do so, the movies get little attention. It's a Catch-22 for film makers.
By the way, I'm old, but my mother, while a primate, is not six million years old.

Belief
I don't get caught up in the emotions of belief. When I was young, I was a big proponent of evolution and used to debate Christians. When I became a believer, I debated with atheists and agnostics(who are even more infuriating than atheists). Now I just have discussions when people ask. I'm not going out of my way to change what someone believes, because that is a journey they must make on their own.

Curious
My path was a mirror reflection of yours.

Yeah, I became aware early on that argument serves only to strengthen resolve. I would point out flaws in LDS belief the Mormon students, putting them in the position of defending those beliefs and fortifying their positions.

I try to avoid that--it is worse than useless. My purpose on the Bible Club was simply to explain what the science shows and emphasize that one can embrace science while still being a good Christian. They were posting perceived flaws and questions about evolution, and I felt obligated to point out there was another perspective. Worlds before ours, separated by vast stretches of time.

My mother isn't quite six million years old yet either.

Movies
When Dune came out it was widely panned, but I liked it. I thought it followed the book quite well.

I would love to see someone try to do the Ringworld justice on film. Have you read it?

Movies
Yes, many years ago. It would be awesome if they would do he way envisioned it.
Just saw the new terminator movie, which purportedly takes off where the second movie left off, seemingly negating those made previously after the second. However, for me, they are just alternate world versions now. What do you think, when they try to do that? I know it really agitates a lot of people. They tried to do something similar in the Highlander movies. There, I agreed, since the sequel really deviated from the original in a way that made very little sense.
