Just how valuable is NATO?
I understand the historical value of NATO, and I understand the US's wish to participate in the alliance. What I don't understand is how much the US pays for this privilege and (1) whether we need to encourage/insist other participants to divvy up a greater percentage of the costs as well as (2) withdraw/downsize our dominance in the organization. Thoughts?

I think NATO serves a purpose, it is an association of "western" democracies with similar values and we face common threats. But (and I think Obama has it right here) NATO cannot nor should not be seen as an extension of the US. We need to reassess our role to ensure more collaboration.

... and I believe Europe needs to bear a larger proportion of both the costs as well as responsibilities.

i agree
we can no longer afford keeping a Army in Europe for no reason. The Military industrial Complex has vested interests in keeping this Army there. They make money. Withdraw all troops now. Use the savings here in America. But the share-holders in Congress will fight this. Always follow the money and you will find the Truth.
