Some ideas borrowed from others
This evening, I have no immediate need to make moves in any of my games, so I have spent some time looking at the forums of other clubs to see what sort of things seem popular. The following seem to occur in quite a few of the other clubs: 1.Consultation games 2.Game of the month competition 3.Help with games 4.Club mini tournaments Could we borrow/steal any or all of these ideas? I think that as far as consultation games and a game of the month competition are concerned, we could probably get these going fairly quickly. The other two would probably have to wait until we have more members. What does everyone else feel about this? PS I found an interesting thread about endgame principles in one of the other clubs and was tempted to reproduce it here. However, I think I should probably seek the author's consent first, so I hope to get back to you on this later.

Borrowed ideas
Whist I have no objections too any of the above, and some of us are also in the other clubs perhaps first we can concentrate on the core idea of this club;endgames. There are some opening lines which head straight for the endgame so perhaps we can have a mini tournament for members in one of these lines(unrated I would suggest as rating varies almost a thousand points within the club) also we could have a mini tournament from set endgame positions:simple ones at first than moving on to more complex ones as we all improve in the endgame.

unrated mini tournaments
I just had a look and I can't see that unrated mini tournaments are actually possible. However, I think it is a good idea and we shouldn't be put of by the fact that Gameknot doesn't seem to have allowed for the possibility of folk wanted an unrated tournament. I guess we could organise the games between us and appoint a scorekeeper.

tournament
Would anyone object if I chose the first Endgame Opening and started the first mini tournament? All members will be issued an invitation.I think the mini tournament set up allows for unrated and invitation only.

tournament
caveman1960 and blueshrimper, A tournament is certainly OK with me. I started this club, but have no intention of being dictatorial about activities. I would participate in a tournament so long as the timing is not faster than about 5 days per move. I have work commitments that can consume large blocks of time occasionally. But faster tournaments are certainly OK if people want them.

threads from other clubs
I think a link to the thread might be better than copying the text. That way we get the benefit of additional posts later and there is no question about attribution or credit. But I am not adamant about it.

No Objections
I also prefer 5 days per move, but other than that I'm fine with the idea and with you, caveman , choosing the opening

"Closed"-opening endgames and "Open"-opening endgames
Wolfgang, as you consider your endgame-linked Opening, you might be interested in looking at Shereshevsky's set of 2 volumes that explore endgames in the context of the openings they spring from. Or in just considering his classification. He classifies endgames as to whether they tend to emerge from "closed" openings, or from "open" openings.
