- The Random Chess Game -
Ok i just got this idea a min ago and i just will test this out in the Club..

So how will this work ?

1 Any club member can make a move that they think is best
2 any second move by the player can only be the 5th,7th,9th and so on after his/her last move.
3 This means you can not move the same color twice
4 The game is not player vs player but will be a live annotation. Any comment on it is cool in advance.

The annotaion is here and the first move is made by me..

What about me?
I've never played 1. e3 but it looks like the immediate response to White to this is 2. Nf3. White
will occupy some of the centre with his knight instead, and prevents both d4 and e5 - at least
for now - with a rather natural knight development.

Is that okay?

c4
Lets stab at the centre. Going along Reti lines. With a pawn at e3, ...d4 doesn't seem to be very problematic. It's nice to get the c pawn out of the way before developing the knight too.

3...e6
3...Nf6 and White could respond
4. cxd5 Nxd5 5. e4 and is at least as good in the center as Black after the black knight
retreats.

3...dxc4 seems OK, but allows White some opportunities to take control of the center (e.g.
4. b3 cxb3
5. axb3 Nc6
6. d4
)

3...d4!? is interesting (maybe even a better move), but I favor the idea of a slower build-up of
tension over an immediate exchange in the middle; so I say Black moves e6.

If anybody else post a move first he can still make any next move with white.

4.d4
prevents black's d-pawn from advancing to d4; gets white's d-pawn out of the way of a few of
white's pieces; should help facilitate fast development for white.

4... Nf6
Going to keep it nice and symmetrical, develop the knight and putting some more support in the
centre squares of d5 and e4.

Who will make move 5. ??

5.Nc3
I'd like to play 5.Nc3 here, developing the Knight to a natural square and still keeping the tension in the centre. If 5.cxd5 exd5 6.dxc5 Bxc5 Black has an isolated d-pawn, but gets active piece play for it (and also has the option of taking back with the knight at move 5 if he wants to avoid that). If 5.dxc5 Black just gets a free tempo for the development of his bishop: 5...Bxc5.

If I read the rules correctly, you have to make a move with White this time as your last move (2...c5) was with Black.

6. Nxd4
Knight captures d4 - pretty straightforward, right?

6. Qxd4 invites an immediate attack on the queen (6...Nc6)
6. exd4 ends in a poorer pawn structure for White, and worse exposes the white king's file.

I considered 6. Qa4+ Bd7 7. Nb5 a6 (and the white knight is lost anyway).

7...Nxd5
I'd like to play 7...Nxd5 to avoid doubled pawns and if White were to exchange again we could take back with our queen and have it placed on an active spot where it can't be chased away easily and it also puts some pressure on White's knight on d4.. By the way, the position is symmetrical again after this move...
