Think my next move is White... so I'll take the bait..
.. and exchange with.... 8. Nxc6. Isolating the pawn on the c-file and creates a temporary pin on
the d5 knight, unless Black wants to give up his king's position to the middle of the board.

Just joined
Hi all... it's amazing how many different ideas can be invented to give a game a new taste... this one is really interesting. So - being on vacation - I'm curious to see and - why not? - to participate.
I'm answering to a message I recieved telling I could join the game, so here I am. No, I don't play actively anymore, but I cannot resist to come on GK often and "talk the talk"
The next move seems so obvious that probably nobody is willing to "waste" his turn in making it, so - if you agree - I can do it myself. 8... b7xNc6.
Of course be free to disagree...
What I didn't get about the "how does this work" is if the moves are made by one player "alone" or if consultation and agreement is needed, welcomed or allowed at all.
In this case, I looked for an option to taking back the knight (I always do), but I couldn't find anything. If 8... Qc7 and white retreats the knight there is some pressure against c3 (say NxN, bxN, Qxc3+, but white defends easily with Bd2, defending the rook, so no return for the sac.
It seems that white won the battle and made black play with an "isolani", while it was implicit in the whole white concept of play that HE will be eager to play with an isolani "d4". Now, I am not sure how black can avoid this pawn to become a weakness. But of course the game is still in its early stages...

Recommend ...Nxc3. While it preserves symmetry, otherwise the c6 isolani may be vulnerable to c file pressure. But I can't make the move, my next move must be as white.
gcah2006
17-Aug-11, 18:30

dmaestro, it seems against the idea of the game to recommend moves for other people to make.
Especially when you last made a move with White too.
dmaestro
17-Aug-11, 19:42

You are not correct, my last and only move was as BLACK, which is why my next move is as White, and so on. I have no special loyalty to either side. And since the game isn't moving that fast, why not? It is up to the person actually making the move what they want to do, maybe the comment will help.

It is no problem guys any extra comment is welcome, and will add to the game.

But it is even better if all comments and plans are also placed as replies in the annotation of this game.

9...Bd6
I prefer Black not fall any further behind in development. Moving the dark-squared bishop to d6
also clears the way for a kingside castle and sets up a threat of the h2 square that may be
interesting much later in the game (assuming White castles kingside).
gcah2006
18-Aug-11, 01:50

I meant Black, not White.

What is the point in having restrictions on which side a person can move for if they can just keep
recommending moves anyway?
dmaestro
18-Aug-11, 09:35

I fail to see the problem with recommendations when multiple options are being discussed in the ongoing live
annotation. I was only trying to encourage somebody to make a move, any move. Fine no more comments.

You are free to comment - easy19 has said so. I just wished to question easy19 as to the point
of his restrictions?

hej Gavin.

This is a total new concept of playing a game on GK
so wen i got the idea, i just made up the rules in say 1 minute.
The purpose of the game is to have a fun with chess and perhaps learn something.

The discussion will add to the fun and learning..
The restrictions with color and moves are there to keep the game random and add more people to the game making moves.. And the color reverse forces us to move for both sides so ratings have less influence on the hole of the game..

If you leave the restriction out you get about 3 or 4 players making moves with the restrictions we need more people to keep the game going.

And looking at the game so far i think we got a suc6full formula here

OK I'll make a move then
10.Qc2 looked extremely good, putting pressure on h7 and indirectly on the c6 pawn and not allowing them to disrupt our pawns if they would take 10...Nxc3 because we can take back with our Q, but unfortunately there's 10...Nb4, forking queen and bishop so winning the bishop for the knight. We could prepare it with 10.a3, but then 10...Nxc3 11.bxc3 would destroy our only advantage (the pawn structure) so I'll go with 10.Bd2. If now 10...Rb8 we'll have to choose between 11.Qb1 or 11.Na4. D2 is the only logical place for the bishop anyway at the moment..
l-d-j
22-Aug-11, 01:46

By the way, about 10.Qc2
Once I played Qc2 in a rapid game with the B on d3 and the black N on c6, and was surprised by ...Nb4. So now everytime I think of playing Qc2, I check whether ...Nb4 is possible.

12.Qc2
Since nobody else is going and it's my turn again. Putting the white queen on c2 accomplishes
two clear goals - protects the b2 pawn and puts the queen on a diagonal supporting the light-
squared bishop on d3. It does something else interesting as well.
