damalfi 01-Sep-11, 08:02	Juicy position... The major issue for black is the lsb, that at the moment is due to the defence of e6, and cannot move. So I cannot understand the Qb6 move... I have no idea what the black plan is, except to attack b2. White can defend in three ways: __1) Na4 - is bad, since the knight is well placed where it is. __2) Bc3 leads to tactics: BxNc3+, bxNc3, QxR+, QxQ, RxQ+, BxR, but then black can play Nxc3, winning a clean pawn. __3) The most natural move for white - and the only good, I'd say, is Rb1, defending b2 an releasing it from the bishop's pin. This allows black to play N or Bc3, taking advantage of blocking the defence of the Nc5 in order to get rid of it, say: Bc3, BxB (or bxB), QxNc5. White can counter it with (Bc3, ) Na4, and black has BxB+, QxB, and black Qb4. Material is even, but white has not the c5 knight anymore (QxQ, NxQ, Bc4 to defend a2, and black can go Na6, so the white knight cannot return to c5. __ Another idea for black after Rb1 is just Nb4, BxN, QxB+, Ke2 and black can exploit something like Qg4+, with advantage. __ Concluding: as white, I have serious troubles coping with the b2 threat if white wants to keep the N on c5.

damalfi 02-Sep-11, 11:09	Not really. I am thinking on Na4 instead. I am a little pessimistic about the outcomes from Rb1, specially after Ng4. Na4 probably has disadvantages I cannot see, but try to keep the nice Nc5 is dangerous, so I would go for Na4. I would like more people to help with the analysis of the position, but if noboy says else, I will go to Na4. __ Stategically, it is not the best idea: I am sure brigadecommander made this move prepared for this following - and this worries me a lot. __ Na4 gives to different possible scenarios, one with the queen's echange, and the other without it. White keeps no pressure, but the resulting position, as far as I could see, is even (__ With exchange: 14. Na4, Ng4, 15. NxQg6, NxQc2+, 16. BxN, a7xNg6, after which white has to solve the problem of the b2 pawn with Bc3 (BxB, bxB and the white pawns are weaker than blacks, but the game seems playable). __ Without exchange: 14. Na4, Ng4, 15. BxNg4, QxB+, 16. ? Ke2 or Nc3. __ So: 14. Na4.

ramblinwreck 04-Sep-11, 18:27	... Nb4 I'm not thrilled with a queen exchange, but it seems Black comes out on top this way. The best response by White (and proceeding play by Black) I see is 15. Nxb6 Nxc2+ 16. Bxc2 axb6, which puts Black slightly ahead (safer king and more central space than White, even in development, maybe a weaker pawn structure than White). It's worse for White to take the black knight instead of the black queen on move 15. White could delay by moving the white queen on move 15, but I think Black can react adequately. It's better than the further loss of tempi in a full-scale retreat of the black queen (to the back rank: ...Qd8), which I think is Black's only other viable move.

l-d-j 10-Sep-11, 11:26	16...Rb8 It seems as if white is in trouble after this. 17.Rb1?? Bxc3+! 18.bxc3 Qxb1+ 19.Qxb1 Rxb1+ followed by 20...Rxh1 or 18.Qxc3 Qxc3+ 19.bxc3 Rxb1+ followed by 20...Rxh1. Sso to save the b pawn he has to play 17.O-O-O which is not really the side he wants to castle on right now.. Maybe sacrificing the pawn is relatively the best option.
