![]() bishop can save White with 20. Bxb1. I can't see how White can compensate if he gives up the pawn and castling queen-side if dangerous. That'd leave White with two passive pieces, but his king is nearer the weak pawns. |

![]() 18. g3 leaves black strong on the white squares, with Qh3 (white is tempted to play Bf1, Qh5, defending in a cramped position), or 19. h3, leaving black the chance to play f4. It threats to open the lines to the white king without fearing 20. Bxh7+ because of QxB, and if 21. QxQ+, KxQ and white has to deal with the threat BxNc3, since the b1 rook is now hanging. If white goes 22. o-o, f4xe3, 23. fxe3?, RxR+, 24. Rxf1 - or loses the c3 knight, Rxb2. __ Better for white is 20. o-o, and black has to decide between fxe3 or f3!?, both with attack. __ So I'm voting for Qh4. |

![]() I think the problem is that we have 3 SIMILAR games in this one and in the Masterclass threads, and really, it is a bit confusing to analyze them. And it seems that few players are reviewing all the 3 games at the same time... like me (yes, the one that said he didn't want to engage in a game again) |

![]() after which Black checkmates with Qxh2#. Let's play g3. Black has to react to get the queen to safety, after which White can play f4. |

![]() in the thread... I'm going to suggest some moves that I would consider for Black here. Qh3 or Qf6 are the moves I would be considering in this situation - I'm not going to explain either as I feel that I might as well just makes the moves then! |

![]() knight still isn't worth it yet, though if it navigates to f4 via e2 it might become more dangerous. Because of the threats from Bb7, the c-pawn is defended from any queen attack - at the minute at least. I want to keep the Queen on the light-squares as they are White's weakness, and it threatens Qf3. The queen on h5 would attack h2 and it might be possible to bring the rook to f6 then h6 (after White castles), with a push of g5 or Rb4 to support the attack... but the attack seems slow and very defendable. Also, Nf4 would put pressure on the Queen. For this reason, I'm choosing Qg4. It finds a nice light-square on an open rank. We can make use of Qb4+ if the knight moves (and the check is helpful). It also allows a h-pawn push which can put a lot of pressure on White's castle... which I'm assuming he will do. So for all these reasons, I choose Qg4. |
