To clarify
We have hogfysshe and marathongirl for a5 or Be6

I changed my vote from a5 to Be6 to agree with Pete

so that is where I see that that we are at this time, and unless someone else
wishes to vote. That's how we stand.

I'm happy to go with Be6
If Pete thinks Be6 then who am I to disagree
Let's go for it!

Be6
I did not advocate Be6. What i did was to correct the analysis being applied after Be6.

so let me be quite clear. a5 and Be6 are both good candidate moves.
but if any one changed their a5 to Be6 because they thought i recommended it then they were wrong.

so last chance to go back to a5 if that really was your best choice until you thought i supported Be6

OK Here is my confirmation vote for Be6
I decided on Be6 not only because Pete suggested or advocated
the move, but to me it made a lot of sense that Be6 would connect
our rooks.

Also, if he should decide to exchange B's the f file will open for our
rook, unpin our f pawn, and we will have 3 adjacent pawns in the center.

But as Pete pointed out he will probably not swap.

a5
I will stick with a5

confirming 16. ...Be6
as mentioned, curious. have to admit I wouldn't mind our B safely on one of those long diagonals pointing toward Ion's king though.

playing Be6
remember in future i do not recommend moves. I only steer you away from incorrect analysis

OK Pete
Thanks for steering us in the correct direction.

New Vote Game
I was lost and Stealth helped me to find my way. I don't have much time to analyze the Be6 an pa5 moves, but at a glance what about Rd8 to give the K an escape route if necessary and face the Black Q on the d file

Rd8 also defend the pawn at d6

Rd8
As I see it is not a bad move.
Good going efc

New Vote Game
Another good looking move is
...........Ngf6 attacking e4, a square white seems to have a problem defending. At f6 the N is better placed since it cannot capture white's
pinned N which is protected by the B that will drive our Queen from the diagonal.

I vote for Ngf6

Correction Post
My last vote 17....f6
Intended to be
17.h3.........Nf6(forced to save our N)
Also threatens NXe4 which would protect our
d6 pawn and force Q to move

if Nf6 then Qxd6?
Would Nf6 put our pawn on the d file in peril?

Hey Team
Any more suggestions?
hogfysshe
05-Mar-13, 15:00

at the moment
I agree with marathongirl's concern and think she puts forward an interesting candidate. since stealth coaxed edward to chime in a bit, I'm not rushing at all this move and am waiting at least a few more days before voting. much better when more people participate. haven't looked too closely at the current position other than to be able to comment as above.

Thanks hf
THanks for your comments and reasons for holding back to encourage others but I think the more conversation we have the better and hopefully this will rally the troops to become involved.
hogfysshe
05-Mar-13, 15:30

well it's a theory
we were having a lot of conversation and people left. so I don't know what to think. either way, for various reasons, I'm still slow in vote games. not a skilled rally-er I don't think. will do my best not to be too slow.

contribution for now is: stealth, there are things about Nf6 I like. But what happens if white plays Qxd6 in response? we'd have two pieces being attacked twice each. Then if we play, ...Nxe4, we go to -3 with his Qxe5. moving the N on e5 instead of capturing the pawn is only slightly less bad (leading to trading B+P for B ). but I may be missing something.

Ng4xNe3
@ hogfysshe Thanks for your input It can be a bit hard working through the thread of optional moves which others put up but in the end we all learn which is what it is about. I didn't like to comment when I first went on as I thought "well, what do I know?" but it isn't about who is better than who but improving which we do eventually.

I'm going to stick N x N for the reasons canvased above.
hogfysshe
05-Mar-13, 17:11

that's the leading candidate...
...for me also.

a thought
what happens to our K defenses if he is allowed to play Bxe6 and we have to recapture with fxe6.

just a thought to get you thinking on an alternative track.

Note this is not a recommendation merely a thought to be considered.

New Vote Game
Marathongirl,

.............Nf6
Qxd6 winning the pawn.

I prefer
.............Nxe3
Bxe3......c5 to defend the pawn with the Q

05-Mar-13, 17:33

@ Pete
1. ... Nc4 he can't take with his pinned N so must take with B or he will lose his Q
2. Bxc4 Bxc4 then is R is threatened

New Vote Game
Marathongirl,

I like that Nc4 to preserve the p at f7
Bxc4........Bxc4
Rhf1........Nxe3
Bxe3.......c5 defending the d6 pawn
zed2
05-Mar-13, 17:58

Nc4
I suspect he would move his threatened N to e1 to protect his N
I was a bit confused with Rhf1 as his Rook is already on f1?
