VOTE 9.....0-0
I think it's time to bring our K to a safer place at this point.
If fxe5 Nxe5, and we still have the pawn+
I do not think he will advance the pawn to f5
And we can do our d6 next depending on his
next move.

Also Pete said we should castle within the first 10 moves,
and this is within that allotted time.

exf
@efc8 your analysis
Well, I looked at
f4.........exf
Bxf.......d6
e5....... would be very wrong for white
he is more likely to play Nd5 at which point the game is pretty even
So there is no need to fear exf

@ecf8
yes i know what you were looking at and my post said that white would not play e5 as it was a loser for him.

0-0
I believe this would be a good time to Castle

re 9. ...0-0
before we decide if this is best, we need to decide if we want to allow the possibility of 10. f5, which would look like this, ...not that he would necessarily play that.
this may be our only chance to easily eliminate that f pawn, ...not that I'm suggesting 9. ...exf4, though it should certainly be considered.

OK
If he advances his f5 this move will hinder his progress, and impede
his aggressiveness. Not a move to be expected by a master, however
if he underestimates our ability to counter, he may do so, just to play
cat and mouse, but very unlikely.

I believe a better move for ion would be more like Nd5 to force a N swap
and enhance his control of the g file for his Q attack.

But as you say, it is only something to contemplate, and not
necessarily an eminent turn of events.

At any rate, we should 0-0 and then decide what our next move should be,
unless there is some other more substantial suggestion.

move 9 0-0
if you do play 0-0 then he will have the option to play f5 or Nd5 but i think he may prefer f5

In castling, I would prefer the Queen side if we choose
to allow the advancing of the f pawn which will cramp
our King side
bigpeta

castling
@efc8 - please refer to my earlier post about the complexities of castling on the opposite side to white.
and you can always stop f5 with exf

10-Dec-12, 19:35

voting for 9. ...exf4 also
I agree with stealth-invader that opening that file and diagonal may help Ion in some ways. but I don't mind breaking up that pair of pawns. and guaranteeing our B access to more of the h3-c8 diagonal may be a good idea.

10-Dec-12, 21:54

Yes 5......exf4 is my vote also
It makes more sense to break up the pawns and
solidify our defense in that way.

hogfysshe has made a very good point.

5 votes to stop f5
efc8 voted exf to stop f5
hogfysshe voted exf4
stealth-invader voted exf4

It appears we have 3 votes for 9...exf4.

Question: Are these enough votes to proceed, or should
we wait for another vote?

several reasons for this choice, ...further setting up of a stable foundation (hopefully allowing us to develop some offense). but I am open to being persuaded to switch if anyone finds a better option.

Vote for 10....d6
10......d6 will parry
11.e5 and with that move we may have to trade Qs and
castling, but at this state of the game, it appears to me
this may be our only move that we have to stabilize for
the moment at least. Perhaps someone else can come up
with a brilliant recovery from this situation

Let us look at

Bxf4.......0-0
e5.........Ne8 controlling g7, f6, d6 & c7
fr1ar
28-Dec-12, 16:03

vote for d6
to reiterate whats been said, d6 to prevent e5 and open the light bishops diagonal.

I think we are looking very good in this game. White does have space advantage but the force is to concentrated on the center, especially on d5, 4 pieces looking at that square. And that has weekend his kingside, also he now has 3 pawn islands. My plan would be to use the natural flow of the light bishop and queen towards a kingside attack and drive our queenside pawn island as far forward as possible to retard his pawn development, setting our extra pawn up with a little more advantage at end game.
bigpeta
28-Dec-12, 16:19

i will vote d6
in the new year after the holiday is over.
good analysis guys keep it up.
