![]() A quick, uneventful draw. White got nothing out of the Reti Opening, and, after a biggish, 20-minute think, he played Qb3 (I think it was move 12 or 13). The position was quickly repeated after that. Possibly White could have tried to vary with Qb4 instead of Qb3, but as that would have conceded something to his opponent, it would have been a lot to risk just to mix things up a bit. For his part, Black might, after 12.Qb3 Na5 13.Qa3 have tried 13...e6. But the same objection applied. With a safe draw pretty much in hand, why seek out problematical chances for more? I think both players will take a measure of satisfaction from that game, but with a large dollop of dissatisfaction, too. Neither was really stretched. The fans, though, would have been less than delighted with what they got to see first time up. |
