Group Hosts
Note: this does not determine the size of the group. This will be randomly drawn at the beginning of the
draw.

Eight groups will be named Groups 1A to 1H based on the first to volunteer to host a group. The first two are
below.
The draw will run as follows:
Step 1: Eight number tiles are placed in a hat and drawn against each group in consecutive order. There are
six 7s and two 5s. This will determine the size of each group.
Step 2: The group hosts will set up the groups and each will be checked.
Step 3: Another hat will contain every name except those of the group hosts. One name is drawn at a time.
The first enters group 1A, the second into group 1B and so on until every name has been drawn and every
group is full. After 32 names have been drawn, two of the groups will be full and set aside. The other groups
will be filled following the same process.
Step 4: The hosts will invite the participants to their respective groups, and the Tournament begins!

And they're under way! (9th Jan 2009)
What a start to the New Year!

With the FINAL of TF\/\/MT2007-8 well under way ( gameknot.com ), our team's annual members tournament begins!

This year there are 51 players battling out for the most coveted title in The Fighting \/\/ARRIORS trophy cabinet (well, medal case, really!) - though a few would be very chuffed to mount a serious challenge to Achilles13 on his points score for the team! The first round consists of eight groups, with 7 players in six of them and 5 players in the other two. Not only that, as usual, there is a waiting list should any player be withdrawn for whatever reason...

The groups can be viewed here:
Group 1A: gameknot.com
Group 1B: gameknot.com
Group 1C: gameknot.com
Group 1D: gameknot.com
Group 1E: gameknot.com
Group 1F: gameknot.com
Group 1G: gameknot.com
Group 1H: gameknot.com

Firstly, let me extend my thanks on behalf of all participants to the hosts of each group, for their continued efforts and dedication in setting up the groups and sending the invites to all involved. Some have not joined yet, for various reasons including that they are either participating in too many tournaments right now, or have too many active games (check your automatic decline rules if you are not at the maximum allowed by your membership!). The hosts continue to liaise with those to get them involved as soon as is possible.

Now, to business! Results are beginning to appear in various groups as Warriors aim to create an early stir, vying for a place in the second round! In Group 1B, tumble_weed takes the first scalp, leading the table on one point. Group 1D is a little more interesting: no less than FIVE results fill our screens, with coupigwe pushing early on 3 points and a cleansweep so far. Ruskie and sonofander_pict are joint-second with a point each.

Group 1E is in a bit of a pickle folks! Group host mysticknight really needs those who haven't joined to liaise with him and do your very best to be available ASAP. A group is not going very far with only two players, and bear in mind that we all hope these groups will finish within a weeks of each other to facilitate the second round. Try to remember that everyone participating is relying on all other participants to treat the tournament with the highest regard so that everyone gets equal enjoyment out of it, and those who progress aren't left waiting for others to finish...

Group 1H also has a result posted. Gameguy8 tops the table with a single point. As usual, all Fighting Warriors are invited to post their comments, and analyze any of the games for the rest of us. If you do, please post a link on the club forum so we can all enjoy it! Thanks!

It needs to be noted again that a number of players aren't ready to join yet for whatever reason. Every host will make contact with each of these players. Please reply with an explanation so that we can work on getting you involved. If you do not reply within 7 days it will be assumed you no longer wish to take part and you will be replaced by someone on the waiting list. You will then be placed on the bottom of the waiting list and invited to join again once a position opens up for you in turn.

Good luck to all, and most of all, ENJOY!

Group update
Group 1A gameknot.com

3 Will qualify and maybe a 4th as a wild card
So far milotoys leads the group with 3 wins out 4 games but nothing is decided yet because of frriedel 3 wins out of 5 pulled an upset beating milotoys and we still have jeff62 2 wins out of 3 and negames4me 1 win out of 1 who are still in the running.
Unfortunately our captain searcoid 1 win out of 4 will have pulled some great games to get his qualification maybe as a wild card and same for chessfiend 1 win out of 4.
For gibsonscot he lost his only finish game but don't count him out of the race yet.
Over all a well balanced group where everything can happened.

Group 1B gameknot.com

3 Will qualify and maybe a 4th as a wild card
mischo seems to be cruising trough this group with a nice sweep. 9 win out of 9. he got his Ticket for the next round. he can technically still be 2nd of the group because collazos can still catch up to him. 4 wins out of 5. But he has too watch out because his ticket for the secound round is not guarantee yet. We have earlkarjohn 1 win out of 2 angellis 3.5 win out of 8 and wolfcub 2.5 win out of 8 are who are chassing the last ticket.
Unfortunately hopewell 3 win out of 10 is in bad situation. Is in a 4th place but I doubt I will stay there for long. Even if he wins his 2 last games his best hope is in the wild card. Same thing for tumble_weed
In this group the ratting is talking for 1st and second but third and wild card will be a fight to the death.

Group 1C gameknot.com

3 Will qualify and maybe a 4th as a wild card
The strongest group in ratting and the slowest. Yep those strong player take their sweet time. But I guess their is a why they are so strong.
So the first four player have a clean score sheet so we have in order fisherboy46 2 win out of 2 hjemcall 1 win out of 1 spursboy 1 win out of 1 and e4addict 1 win out of 1 who created a surprise in beating higher rated riposte 1 win out of 2 also with the same score we have cpresoz 1 win out of 2.
In the last place we have the courageous ilpo 0 win out of 5 who ended up in strong group for his ratting. I personally rooting for him.
So everything need to be done in this group. We will just have to wait.

Group 1D gameknot.com

3 Will qualify and maybe a 4th as a wild card
sonofander_pict 8.5 wins out of 12 our friend from brasil is already done with his game. Gezzz his fast. His also got his ticket for the next round as a first or second place.folowing closely by coupigwe 7.5 win out of 9 who has a great chance for qualification. Follow mitchle 4 wins out 8 with 2 incredible performance against the first 2 especially against coupigwe 343 ratted point difference. good job. And we have ruskie 4 wins out of 9who is fighting for third place or wild card with a good perf against coupigwe. Let's not forget smcgre04 3 wins out of 7 who's ambushed to surprise everybody. mayor 1 win out of 4 only lost aginst the first 2 so he still has his chance but can't realy slip up anymore. thebishop1000 1 won out of 9 is eliminated but he's fighting like a warrior
It is an interisting group with a lot of surprise all the way arround so let's see if it continues.

Group 1E gameknot.com

2 Will qualify and maybe a 3rd as a wild card.
Small group where nothing is done yet and the fight is awesome. kleos 2 wins out of 2 is leading the group so far but as some tough game ahead of him. chesscommander 2 wins out 3 is close by. mysticknight 1 win out 2 showed grogygrmln 1 win out 2 that ratting is not everything in chess. he beat him with his 301 point difference. good job. maitre is trailing but can catch up and still take 1st place but he will have to work hard.
A good group aver all but only future will tell the whole story.

Group 1F gameknot.com

2 Will qualify and maybe a 3rd as a wild card.
My group...... Well irmo29063 3 win out of 4 has a commanding lead but he's still as to be careful because everybody else is close by and his ticket for the second round is not validated yet. Follow closely bobbob78 1 win out of 1 then betterthanyou 1 win out of 2 and madsweeney 1 win out of 3 and at last wanderingwolf 1 win out 4 who is far from being eliminated yet but has a lot of work if he wants to qualify.
I'm not giving my opinion on this group yet. It's too close to call.

Group 1G gameknot.com

3 Will qualify and maybe a 4th as a wild card
Still early but capablanca7 no game finish should dominate the group. His ratting is so much higher than everybody but we have seen surprise on the other group so why not on this one.
hvacr 2 win out of 2 lead the group but let's just wait. then andru2 1 win out of 1 and calojay 1 win out of 1who follow closely. desmondvan 2 win out of 5 might be the troublemaker in this group. garner 0 win out of 1 and sherbert 0 win out of 2 are not out of the running but it will be difficult for them.
In this group it seems that rating will be they key but still too early too tell

Group 1H gameknot.com

3 Will qualify and maybe a 4th as a wild card
In this group it seems that the 3 ticket are almost guaranty for vicit 6 wins out of 8. corneliusblisand 5.5 wins out of 7 and gameguy8 5 wins out of 6. But neither of them is mathematically qualified yet. So suspense is still on because oldfossil no finish game yet and deltawing 1 win out of 3 can still come and beat everybody else to qualify. But if irishleprechaun 1.5 win out of 7 is not eliminated. he has a lot of work ahead of him. But unfortunately kudzu 1 win out of 9 is eliminated but will try to grab as may point as possible before he goes down.
This group is easy to predict but I'm still hopping for some surprise.

That's the latest and I will update once an a while and I count on all of you to let me know if something incredible or interesting is happening.
For example: game very interesting end game. It will be very nice for a strong player to comment at the end of the game.
Let me know

I'm impressed!
What a great idea to highlight a game at the end - wow, I'm also impressed at the progress of
our January MVP wolfcub! What a squeeze he plays here!

Excellent commentary, and very informative. I also note vicit is making up for last year!
Sorry Bruno - couldn't resist it! The first champ is back with a vengeance, eh?

Good work Jeremy! I think we've bagged ourselves a fine Tournament Manager, fellow
Warriors! =)

Group 1A gameknot.com

No Changes at all. Come on guys we want some action

Group 1C

hjemcall and fisherboy46 took the lead with a perfect score of 3 out of 3 and behind the race is on. Ilpo is in trouble with 1 out of 8.

Group 1D
