Poetic end...
A known (see 73% now) technique to guide the black king into his destiny. Sometimes called a Rhapsody on black (white) squares.

Naming the technique
I would call it rolling rooks, except it's not rolling rooks...

I didn't know this technique, but once I stumbled upon the right first move, it was pretty straightforward to work out the rest. A good 'teaching puzzle,' as I'll now remember this technique much better than other endgames I've just seen somewhere.

I agree...
It's a very well known king-driving technique, but a useful didactic exercise for learning players who have never encountered it. This is one technique, once learned, easily recognized, never forgotten.

My first intuition was to drive the king to the a file but quickly realized the the black Queen was positioned to prevent mate in what would otherwise be four moves. Pushing toward the h file was clearly impeded so downward movement seemed the only option. I'll admit that it took me a moment to recognize the technique but once I saw the first move, the rest fell into place. It turned out to be a good reminder of a simple yet elegant endgame technique. Thanks for posting it.

Very Informative Exercise
I didn't know this technique and it took me many failed attempts to drive the K to the left or right sides before I hit upon driving it down the d file but once started on this course the rest was easy. And I agree, once learned ... etc. However, solve rate is now only 66%.
