great puzzle indeed
It's pretty intuitive that black's king must be boxed in further to deliver mate in 3, but how to go about it. Very enjoyable puzzle, and I wonder what the eventual solve rate will be.

Very instructive
The simplicity does not take its beauty. With one second on the clock, many strong players would not deliver mate in 3 in this position, and would lose on time.

Second on clock?
Mr Santos usain bolt would not be fast enough to get three moves in with one second on clock, the flash may just get there, where's this one second on clock come from?.This is a puzzle they put up for about a day, which for me with an average IQ got solved instantly ,this puzzle would be solved easily by any novice in my opinion.

The first thing that came into my mind was the "Morphy Problem":

Where 1.Rh6 is a zugzwang sacrifice. In our puzzle, this is the idea "Rb6 axb6" followed by a queen mate on the a-file.

That only works if Black's rook is on b8, but we can lure it there by threatening mate on b7 with the queen. So we just need to find a square where the queen attacks the b-pawn and can get to the a-file in one move.

Ah-ha! And that pin ont he b-pawn comes in handy as well.

2 Rb6 is the response.

Question
I believe justaminute meant 1....Rb8?, then 2 Rb6 as olderguy says. Then black can only move the rook or the a-pawn. If the rook is moved then Qb7#, if the pawn takes the rook, then Qa1#, if the pawn is moved forward to Pa6 or Pa5 then Ra6#. In any case, they are all mate in 3. Really nice puzzle!
