why would you move 2h6+? No one in their right mind would do that.

That move was done to stop Black from playing the immediate Rg1 mate.

Hm... why not move e1-d1 or e1-f1, either one of those would have kept the R... sorry my chess verbiage is not good. I'm still sorta new to all this chess notation.

K is King. R is rook. N is Knight. Q is Queen. B is Bishop. P is Pawn. When moving, identify the piece and then the square that the piece is moving to. + is check. # is checkmate

2. Kd1 Rd2+
3. Kc1 Rg1#

The King cannot move to f1 since it would be in check from Black's Bishop.
