The term "cooked" in chess, meaning an unsound problem , is derived from the name of E. B. Cook , the great American composer who was known as a demolisher of erroneous problems.
A collection of 650 problems called " The Chess Companion of E B Cook of Hoboken" was published in 1927, about 15 years after his death.
