After playing it out and getting a few wrong moves in, I looked at it in hindsight and realized that the play here is to see that the white king was near the corner and relatively pinned in and the goal becomes to completely pin the king into that corner. It is a good rule to play by in general, to get the king pinned if/when you can manage it even with a handful of pieces still on the board playing out extraneously around the board that you don't need to be as concerned with anymore. This exercise became a good learning experience. Thank you.
