Somebody may point out something I missed but Queen f4 gives a number of second moves for checkmate depending on where black defends. The computer doesn't seem to agree with me but I haven't worked out a defence.

If 1. Qf4 then 1. ... a:b4+ (or 1. ... R:b2+) and there is no mate in two. (You can use option "another solution" to obtain this)

Yes, the first move needs to be a check, otherwise black gives check and there is no white move that gets out of check and also gives mate.

Quite right missed that. Not looking at the whole board, a fatal mistake. I only asked because I did once find a solution to a puzzle that the computer didnt allow. It was altered to allow it when I questioned it.

I liked this one!
It was pretty easy, but was also an object lesson in looking for the most forcing moves, for BOTH sides. It would have been even better if 1.Qf4 axb led to mate for Black!

Solve rate
Why is the solve rate so low? It's clear you need a check, and as soon as you see that Qxd6 is checkmate and Rg5+ forces the f-pawn to leave the 6th row, all becomes clear.
Easy, but nice: 1 star for difficulty and 1 extra for beauty.

It was a nice puzzle, I saw king couldn't move anywhere and as wardh pointed out and otherpeople that you need a check to checkmate him and also saw that they can only block check with pawn which opens up way for my queen to attack Qxd6 as wardh pointed out.

it was also a simple puzzle, just look at the board and knew what moves to make.

alt F4 mostly means end the program
but not this time. I also liked Qf4... but almost 10 years ago some people did know otherwise

@appeloappelo
I'm one of "some people" and I really don't know what you mean. For me it is appeloappelo.
