Links from blogspots...

Just recently I received a message promoting creating links from one's blogs/homepages/what have you into Gameknot. As it happened this is a repeat of the promotion of some months ago. The promotion offered free months of premium membership for placing such a link.

Sounds good, thought I, and placed a link on my 'Archduke Piccolo' blogspot, just below the banner, where visitors could see it at once. I quite like having the thing there (though I had already placed a link to GK when I set up the thing, just as my GK profile contains a link going the other way). But unless I have missed something I had no way of replying to the message to advise I had done so. So no extra months of premium membership...

What have I missed?

For those who have not visited it, archdukepiccolo.blogspot.com is one of the best wargaming blog-sites, period.

As for the GK linkage, I wonder if the html code activates a message to GameKnot when someone visits your blog, and then he or she clicks onto the GameKnot link.

Here, let's find out. . .

... I really appreciate that plug!

I know the GK icon link works (I use it myself, and I think I've deleted as redundant the link I already had), and in fact, clicking in the 'challenge me' bit, I'm pretty sure gets you a different place from my GK profile.

As for the blogspot itself - well. it has been sadly neglected lately... More to come soon, I hope!

Seems it Does work, since even I got to the blog-site by the links here, and got back to the GK Home Page by clicking your GK-ICON. Then I came back here 'the hard way' of navigating from HomeGK to Forums area, etc, rather than just doing a back-paging or previous Tab click.

And so, assuming this does show up, it seems a very slick & clean process. Of course, I was already Logged-In here. Wonder how it works for someone just coming from the battle site who is not a member here? My guess, probably works perfectly like most GK add-ons always have. But it would be nice to know and yet once they got to GK, all but the most curious & determined newbee would almost certainly fail to find these well-hidden Forums, and actually Tell Us here.

My only trouble was Finding the GK Icon there. Since it does not show up on the first screen "page" of my laptop, I must have scrolled past it a couple times. Then I read here to look just below the "banner" & there it was.

I hope you get your Free Time Ion ! (BTW, does anyone know if that offer is still in effect?)

Now I see ...

it does take me to different places here, depending what is clicked on the Icon there. As expected, I got your profile by clicking your Nik or Stats. But, neatly the Challenge link went right to the setup page for a challenge game. Of course, I clicked the GAMEKNOT word there, to get the GK Home/Log Page, when I did the post above this.

Still wonder how/where it all takes someone having no Nik (nor account) here yet. Especially if they sought to Challenge from the Icon. If it would give them a Registration Page instead, or what? hmmm

... I don't know what happens if a non-subscriber comes along. None has yet challenged me, that's for sure. It is possible there have been a few bites otherwise, but I havenn't heard anything. Not many wargamers play chess, I suppose, and not many chess players wargame.

But still, I use it to teleport to Gk from time to time, though more often I go from GK to AP...
