I Wish...
GK would make this forum more available and with an easier interface.

Like maybe a Club format, where you could see:

"Most active Gameknot Forums"
"Active message threads in all Gameknot Forums"

"My GameKnot Discussion"

I would like to see...
1. More options on setting up mini-tournaments, like only being able to accept people who move on average, say, every 3 hours or less.

2. Mini-tournament knockouts. Like a 64 person KO competition!

3. Time control of max 2 or 3 days on a mini-tournament. Currently the minimum is 5 days.

4. Make this forum more visible. Make it an option on it's own on the main menu.

As you can see all most of mine relate to mini tournament rules! Nothing is more annoying that joining an 11 man tournament and 9 of you having completed 90% of your games whilst 1 or 2 play dreadfully slow which affects everyone else being stuck in that tournament for 6+ months.

Space: the final frontier
a LOT MORE SPACE FOR NOTES so I can include games from the GM database during opening moves as well as space for my candidate moves and their possible lines during long middlegames

I agree with shamash, more space for notes and...
also a database of my own games with opening statics ect.

but I do think GK is by far the best chess site. keep it simple, keep it chess

another fun touch would be. . .
if teams could play each other the way individuals do. . .

with a single shared game-board, the moves determined by consensus or plurality of votes within the Club,

and the discussion board featuring a common, shared gameboard that shows the current position, and the previous moves.

(Although some Clubs do have games versus other clubs, with participating club members discussing plans and moves, it is very awkward:
the position may be posted but it is not a real-time position on which you can make moves).

more space for notes
i echo shamash's suggestion for more space for notes, that would be very helpful...but either way i love this site for playing chess...

My wish list
I second Jimaldo number 2 the rest of the mini tournamnets are fine.

My wish list goes a little something like this

1) Tree condiitonals(sp) what I mean is say you have a ten move conditional(sp) and at move eight you notice your opponet could do two differant things right now you have to enter moves 1 through 7 then a new move eight. Not only would allowing just to change move eight save time it would keep mulit conidional lines more organized

2) See what games is is your opponents move in. You can see all active games but you can't tell if he is moving in other games and not your or not moving at all. I know in the rules it doesn't matter but still be interesting to see

3) abilty to upload moves from an offline anylisis board. What I mean is something I save the fen position and put it in to scid and play out moves that way. No engine just offline board(perfectly leagal in corr. chess). Once I find a line I like up load it with my first move being entered and the rest cond. moves

4) I know this a corr. site and there are other sites to to play real time on but have that opition on here would be nice. And longer games at that. None of this 1 0, 2 0, 3 1 crap if you want to play that go to ICC I mean have like a min of 10 min per game and maybe even a min of 20 and have a realtime rating on here for that as well

That should about cover it

On Conditional Moves
You can already edit a line and save it as new, so you don't have to renter the moves. It also doesn't remove the current move list when you save it, and automatically points out any conflicts; so I not sure what you mean by tree conditionals?

That said, it does seem to be the case that the lines appear in the order they were entered. If they were sorted by move it could make the process of entering multiple conditionals easier. For instance if your trying to enter a forced mate were an opponent has many responses, you would want all the lines beginning with one move to appear together, so you can check that you've entered all the moves.

An improved post-game computer analysis
Currently it is hard to play through games with the computer analysis board and try out variations

Ability to play in more than one ladder
...and add a third, perhaps 2 days per move. Heck, I'd have 1 day per move and call it "Bullet Correspondence"

agree with jimaldo, options on tournaments to make quicker moves. last year, i was at one point down to 13 games from 12 tournaments. everyone has the right to move at their own pace, but these suggestions would take away a lot of frustration i think...

Would anyone be interested in seeing...
Separate ratings for playing as black and white? I have always been curious as to the difference in my performance between playing the two sides of the board. Right now I almost have my black W/L percentages equal to playing as white, but I think it is as a result of playing weaker competition as black. So, I would like to see my rating from both sides of the board.

I was 1896 and after draw with 1936 I lost 0.3 rating. Why?

Draw Game
I noticed there is a large spike in your rating several days ago. If you started your game against dbtsafi1 during this time (with a rating above 1934) that would explain it.

see gameknot.com.

While I imagine this system is a fair enough way to balance out rating changes over long games, it would be nice to display the players initial ratings somewhere in the game (whether current or finished) for the sake of transparency.

bebajane, the point system goes up and down from where your rank and your opponents rank was when the game started and not when the game ended. does that help?
