What's new on GameKnot
Apparently 300 is the "new" maximum of messages per forum thread instead of the (very) old 50. (see the end of the previous thread: gameknot.com)

Hovering the mouse cursor over game gives proof of the diagram promotion bug.

What diagram promotion bug?   (capture en passant and castling are not handled completely yet though)

In case you are not sure what this is all about, please make sure you are using the latest version of your web browser that supports HTML5. Most notably, if you are using Internet Explorer, you need to upgrade to IE10 to get full support for animations and other visual effects. Chrome, Firefox and Safari have supported all the latest technologies for a while now (and they usually automatically update themselves as well).

Is there an option to turn of these animations of the last move in the pop-up boards?
Gameknot.com

tobiasverhulst, not at this time. Could you please explain in more detail, why would you want to turn the animation off? The animation provides useful info and lasts less than a second for any move (actually, half a second). Just a personal preference?

Yes, it's a personal preference; I find this animations annoying. Since I am a gold member I have always many games going on at the same time. I often 'scroll' true them by quickly looking at the pop-ups, to find back a specific position. Even though the animations are quite quick, it's still much too slow for me when I'm trying to find a certain game.
Also, I disagree that the last move is helpful. Of course it is not while searching for some position, but even in the game itself, apart from a few relatively rare exceptions, the previous move has no relevance to the position.

In all cases an on/off switch is great for any kind of feature

I agree, on principle, with kingdawar. Why add any feature without giving the option? Technically, if there is no such switch, I don't really consider it a feature, but rather a change.

Thanks for your feedback. Generally, we don't provide a configurable option for minor features, otherwise, well, there would be literally hundreds of separate options to cover everything... We will likely provide an option that covers all visual effects for the chess diagrams in the future, as they can also be slightly taxing for older/slower computers when many diagrams are shown on the same page at the same time (for example, in a forum post using "fen=" code, or for annotated games, etc.).

It seems you can now sign in with a Facebook account - wonder how that'd work - who are using this?

I no longer can be alerted when I have a new move or message coming in, something about needing to update my W.E. to the latest version, which I have tried to do without success. Anyone want to try to help accomplish this feat?

Question about Closed Club.
When a Chess Club is closed, is there a way to access the past threads that were created during the clubs existence.

Also can a club be restarted after it has been closed by the original founder?

Is there a way to start the club with a different founder, with previous threads locked permanently?

All of these questions stem from the recent closure of the "The Elite Chess Club", which was founded by tactial_abyss, it was closed on July 18, 2013. This club had some threads that had valuable chess information, maybe to good. I haven't confirmed it with TA, but maybe some of his opponents were using this information against him in games. Most the information was above my current level, but could have helped me achieve future advances, and I feel a valuable asset to this site.

I look forward to your response.

@kingdawar
I like it, the first time you have to sign in twice, the next time you just click on sign in using facebook button and you are there, not username, no password.

Not sure about the tracks it leaves on facebook, will let you know, also should be away to stop it if you want to, maybe signing in the old way ends it.

Thanks king, I would have never noticed that, the fact that it is at the bottom of the page makes it well hidden.

All these little new feature things that are popping up all over the place,I don't even keep up with them anymore.Perhaps i'm missing something, but I really do not see the logic behind that "W" or the "B" to the left bottom of my game boards. When you click on your games, your side of the board will always be in the correct position for you anyway,so there never will be a question as to what color your playing!Seems redundant to me,perhaps even a bit annoying.Just me,I guess.

No, it's not just you. I'm starting to get the feeling someone feels the need to keep adding things, no matter whether they"re useful or not. I find, for example, the animations in the "hover over" boards a little annoying. So, Gameknot programmers: we're perfectly happy with how everything works, please don't make the site to bloated

Well,I suppose "maybe"GK has hired a new, young programmer who feels the need to earn his keep?Just a wild guess.More useful features to me instead of flashing disco lights(ha ha) would be something like being able to type in a players name and be able to "quickly" get a personal list of a specific opening/opening line variation within that opening that he may have played in the past or is playing now....rather than search through a ton of games,or a "general" database.Yes,I am aware of that feature with the game database, but that is nowhere near the depth of what I am describing here. This way,it would be a fine tuned "tool" to use competitively and a great/quicker decision making option as to creating branched subvariational options possibly in my favor where see he had an advantage or even a disadvantage.

Lets see what else?If it was up to me,I would still prefer something they had years and years ago.I prefer the conditional moves to be directly below the board, even as a clickable option, which could temporarily remove a few things if necessary. There is something better about being able to see all your conditional moves "immediately" and directly below the board when you click on your board and observe the shaded progress as they are being accepted......rather than a "separately detached" board away from the mother board. It would psychologically integrate the essence of the game all in one rather than separately. It would also save a bit of time, even in a small way.Yes,adding conditional moves by way of a separate board,I understand, but I would still enjoy seeing the "progress" of those conditionals the instant I click on my board, not by clicking on another board.
