Gameknot what is happening ?
I have been having problems getting on GK , and when I eventually did all my games have extra time added to them ? Why? I'm not imagining it I'm totally sober but I can tell as a team game I moved in about 12 hours ago has only counted down 1 hour , I do no understand Plz help clear this up , I do not need the hassle of changing things and settings if everything thing is ok ? I also couldn't connect with Gameknot for more than two hours,but could connect with other sites,then the problem was in Gameknot.In these case,they give extra time to the games,to prevent that someone lose for time.

I guess it’s one of those very rare occasions when GK has server problems and they automatically compensate by adding time to everybody’s clock.

Thankyou , it is nice to know that I didnt imagine it , I was beginning to wonder ! I hope GK let us know what happened I was about to select default settings , which would of affected recent information and settings As loyal GK devotees we want answers ! 😤 (Phew a rush of blood to my head there ! A hotflush )

Sorry for the unexpected downtime
There was a a power outage in the facility that houses GameKnot servers, that caused an outage of about 2 hours. We have added 24 hours to all games to prevent time-outs. We are requesting a detailed explanation from the server facility as to why the back-up generators did not prevent this downtime, and what they are going to do to prevent this in the future. Please accept our most sincere apologies for any inconvenience, it was completely beyond our control.

Cannot log in
When I log in it says welcome back , but when I try start a game it says cannot log in try again anyone experiencing same issues. since yesterday

It seems there was down time yesterday for quite a few players it seems ok now , It's been awhile since I joined GK and had non member issues , i do remember you have to confirm your email address to start upto 2 new games , maybe check your settings which gets you upto 6 new games I think

Excluding the down time issue,but with other issues as described above... Its ALWAY better to be a paying member on GK.If I remember correctly,the loading speed is faster as a paying member,less disconnects and their are no ad banners and more which would be a waste of my time.Plus you support GK and its new potential research and future added options and more.The cheapest is $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year,which I truly believe most people on this planet can afford,unless you are in complete dire straits,no job,too young,living in a country that is at war or being taken over by terror thugs.So,I do not feel sorry for those free members that end up having issues or problems on GK.Just saying as I always do.

I think the problem is due to Gameknot not being able to access Cloudflare. This doesn't happen very often, but when it does... no one can get into Gameknot, paying member or not. "Fortunately" it doesn't seem to ever last much more than a day... but if you've got games where you're low on time... I know... manage your time better, or have fewer games... but if some of those games have a time limit of two days... if you're not sitting in front of the computer 24 hours a day...

So we are advocating reducing memberships... Or ... the owners fix the problem , cloudfare blocks multiple attempts to log onto GK , if you get the message your best to wait before trying again , it could also mean GK thinks your attempt to log on is from a dubious source , the only problem I have ever had when accessing a chess site is with GK , I play on more than one with no problems

I'm not advocating for people to play fewer games, just that this is an argument that could be used against me. If a website is down long enough, it doesn't matter how few games a person is playing, how diligent they are, or how long the time limit is... if it's their turn they will time out eventually if they can't access the site, and the website (hypothetically) doesn't grant them an extension. I have had problems with other chess websites, though not recently. But then, Lichess is the only ever website I'm using at the moment - and that just for the variants. In the past, Chess.com has been unavailable... usually this occurred when they were adding new features.

What happened to customer service?
Blaming Cloudflare is a cop out The simplest solution would have been to add 24 hours to all games as soon as GK came back on line which is their own stated policy (see gameknot.com ). The current owners don't seem to monitor their site (I wonder if they even knew it was down?). Remember how the old owner would read messages on this forum and respond to our concerns? If the new owners don't start being more proactive and manage things more "hands on", then GK will begin a slow death spiral.

The complaints are still responded to , not so the forums I guess , not responding to an outage is a bit shoddy , a total lack of customer service

It's totally strange to me that the back end of this site works well enough on its own that the captain can just leave the ship for some time without anybody noticing.

GameKnot player game database no longer getting updated
The GK player game database is no longer getting updated (please see gameknot.com ). The last update occurred over two years ago on or about June 21, 2021 which is about the time the new owners took over. The updates used to occur every few months! So how about it GameKnot (if you're reading this), when can we expect another game database update?

Email verification
Gameknot say my email address needs verifying. I do that. Nothing appears in my email. What can I do to rectify the situation. Should I uninstall gameknot and try again - change my Email address - just move to another Chess game on the Net !!. Very frustrating. Can anyone help me?

Live games not working?
Every time I try to play a live game today, I get a "Disconnected from server! Login failed!" What's happening with that?

GK's outage problems started occurring after GK added live chess. I play here at GK for correspondence chess only, and if the server load caused by live chess is the problem then I hope that live chess goes away.

I was never a big fan of rated live blitz on GK for about a hundred reasons,even if the rated blitz gives no issues at all to the server.GK is primarily a corrsp site and the blitz here pales in quality comparison to the primary blitz sites that specialize in it.I still love the unrated blitz as it has been for years and years on GK.So,keeping the unrated as opposed to the rated probably will not do much to the servers,although I am not sure.I only base that upon GK not having hardly any downtime in the past compared to recently.Oh well,off to the restaurant.
