Fen Notation
I mentioned about my favorite feature a while back in this forum, being the annotations. But, my second is the Fen Notation. And, that's not a notation of move order (PGN) but of the position. Annotations include both PGN and FEN. But, what's unique about the fen notation, in it of itself, is that you can compare one position, when we're talking about what happened during the game. In fact, you can even insert one in an annotation which ION and I have done.

And, I have even used it to teach some of my students chess, believe it or not. It's an extremely good feature and can help one learn. In fact, I and others have done a little bit of studying with ION from some of his fens in 3 or 4 clubs.

Fen Notation use in game challenges
But is it possible to set up a game using fen notation and challenge someone to start a game from a position already in progress?

It's not possible, unless the game timeout, meaning that someone lost or won on time. It would, in return come up as R for reinstated where you'd resume the position. Know, I don't know how to ask for reinstatement and luckily will never know as I've only timed out on 2 games, and that was, the first 2 that I ever played here. But, after winning on time, someone challenged me for reinstatement which he timed out on. He'll know how to.

I would imagine that two players can easily set up any game from any position,as long as both agree to a series of moves, then play out those moves to move 14,for example.Playing unrated would be the safest way just in case one player decides to alter any of the agreed upon moves.

Games
Is there a limit on the number of starting moves? Because mini tournaments have opening positions.

Obviously
1. f4 e4
2. g4 would be out.

That would be an amusing starting point.
