Did you offer a draw Steve, or was it something like a draw by rep or 50 move rule that you declared. If it wasn't an offer, and you got him to repeat or not made a capture, then you made the right choice.

As far as I know, Gameknot will automatically declare a draw when there is insufficient material. However, there are some situations where one side can't force a win... but if their opponent makes the wrong moves, they can end up losing all the same - like with Two Knights.

Actually, Gameknot doesn't automatically declare a draw. If it's a situation where a draw can be declared, then you have to go on the game options, and hit the declare a draw feature, for this to happen.

If you ever get a game that reduces down to two Kings (not the only scenario, just an example) ... see what happens!

Our game got down to 2 kings. Thankfully my opponent accepted my draw offer quickly.

The idea of the game is to win ! Win@ all costs !πŸ˜‹

But

In the event of a game were no one can win maybe a "dead boared" sorry "dead board" could be declared lol , then everyone wouldn't get fed up with certain player's dragging games out as they have narcissistic tendencies !!!! Yes they know who they are 😱😈

Or a tab and one player can declare the board "dead position" as per the 3 move repetition option

As I'm getting a little carried away it's best I declare Seasons Greetings to everyone @ GK

Even those on my ignore list πŸ˜‡

Game knot is smat enough to end up a game automaticly in dead position 2 kings and that is should have ended the game. I posted a smiller thread where what would happen if the position had the material to win but neither side could what would happed

Example of postion here chess.stackexchange.com

Unfortunitaly my thread devoled to in 2 nights mating theory I am glad to see someone asking about this maybe GK admins will look into that

The draw offer wasn’t accepted quickly, the system automatically declared it a dead position; it’s just that the last pawn has to be taken before that can happen.

Automatic Draw
<<Actually, Gameknot doesn't automatically declare a draw.>>

That seems crazy, as I swear I've seen GK automatically declare games a draw where only two kings were left, or two kings and a bishop or two kings and a rook.

Will have to see if I can find one of those--but are there scenarios where GK does NOT declare obvious material draws like these?

Here is an interesting game that automatically ended in stalemate. Black should have opted for pawn promotion of a knight instead of a queen.

Ok, here is one:
game

Pawns are exchanged leaving just the kings, GK declares the game drawn with the note "dead position." This still isn' the insufficient material draw, however...

Here we go!
game

Again, "dead position." But the game above is the one you're looking for, and GK doesn't let the players continue playing. The draw is obvious and determined.

Now, I saw a game of thousands of moves with king versus king/rook (the rookie obviously didn't know what she was doing). So GK does not automatically invoke the 50 move draw OR the 3 move draw, either player must declare it. But dead positions and stalemates are pretty obvious.

Correction
Two kings and a KNIGHT, (not two kings and a rook).

I knew I was going to talk about the king/king-rook game and got ahead of myself. Just spent more time searching for that king/king-rook game again. I should ask King_0_Nothing, I bet he could find it pretty fast.

I don't have many draws but I remember some

game

This one above when I was struggling a little - GK declared it a dead position

I think that JJ is a great person to ask, lord_shiva due to the other clubs that he found.
