I like this idea.Having said that, I am very pleased to acknowledge the new 'Blitz Attack' feature. I've given it several goes, but not really making much of it! I have occasionally started up Eng Game threads on the Chess forum, but interest seems to be wanting. |

I have very many areas in which I need to improve ( ) , but endgames are the most important. Especially Pawn Endgames and Rook Endgames - I'm even worse at other endgames... but they don't crop up as often! Nick |

Have you tried chess tactics ? Pretty close .... once you get into them pretty good .. repition strengthens your game |

Chess Tactics -I have noticed in the past that quite a few 'beginner level' and inexperienced players often don't know how to finish off the K+R vs K ending. They sometimes don't know how to begin. For instance in this position: a beginner might play 1.Rh5ch ... Suppose Black were to play 1...Kf6 (or some other move)? Then what? Checking again won't do; not much point in moving the rook at all for the moment. So what do you play? Of course, the plan's first phase should be to herd the Black king to the edge of the board. Once there, the WK and WR can be manoeuvred to prevent the BK's escape to an interior rank or file when the rook delivers checkmate. Where do you learn this? |

However one thing the chess tactics offered me was how to put myself in a winning position , whereas in the past I may of chose the obvious option ... especially completing tactics rated @ over 1900 , the only downside being problems rated @ over 2200 can take many moves to complete and rely on your opponent making the best available move , at my "rating" I try to misdirect an opponent which virtually never works against an opponent such as yourself .. But your right end game tactics are randomly produced |

Blitz Attack...One of the useful features, apart from solving as many tactical situations in 5 minutes, with fewer than 3 errors, is that you can review your failures afterwards. I've occasionally got through error free, but often much too slow - 10 or 12 seconds per position. If you make 3 mistakes the session ends. I'm surprised how often I have solved the mistakes in 5 seconds or less! Finally, you will be awarded stars, up to 5. For each star you skip 3 positions, but at a cost of up to 45 seconds. Many - most - of the tactics in Blitz Attack are very easy, though you have to beware of 'second guessing' yourself! You will get repeated positions and repeated motifs as well. I've lost count how many times Philidor's Mate and Legal's Mate have cropped up. |

chess tacticsHowever, End game tactics would be interesting. It is highly focussed and it is different from middle game tactics. |

Playing Blitz Attack...This one involved I think a 4-move sequence to win for Black. |

1. h3 2.be4 g3 3.bf3 g2 4.bxg2 pxg2 The only issue I found was were to move the white bishop On tactics I managed to get into the top 50 - 60 but I have had around 4000 attempts a lot of repition lol I don't do as many now as I've reached my limit ... I now "cherry pick" the one's I do as tactics rated at 2200 do not usually go to mate |
