I am still trying to be active in science and I have suddenly found that the problems in this Club are a true hinder for my work. I am sure it is because I take the Club too seriously. How to counter all those who continuously try to break the beauty and just introduce havoc? I had anticipated great explorations of science, arts, chess, and workmanship, but what I see is mostly satire and hate." |

Thanks, Joe... I think if you want to have broad discourse within a club, you have to expect controversy, especially within the divisive kind of world in which we seem these days to be forced to live. One really ought to learn the 'rules of debate', although, having said that, I recall a Facebook contact once disappearing over the horizon after a diatribe at me that managed to compass 'ad hominem', 'reductio ad absurdum', begging the question and appeal to authority all in the one posting. This person, mark you, was a 'mature' philosophy student, given to making posts about the 'rules of debate'. I guess, if you happen to hold passionately to certain beliefs, it ain't easy to stick to them! |
