rating manipulation
Hi, Can I please ask about the correct course of action when I am quite certain that a particular player is deliberately manipulating their rating by deliberately losing games. They only rarely lose a tourney game, but lost ‘friendliest to much weaker players. It is a blatant pattern, and other members feel the same. They rating ‘line’ is way abnormally flat despite having played 1000s of games. Surely GK should police this??

It is not unusual for a player to focus on tournament games (or other group competitions) and treat regular games more casually. If you still think that the player is deliberately manipulating their rating, please use "Report a Problem" link located at the bottom of all GameKnot pages to report the issue -- we will investigate further and take appropriate action.

I've seen the opposite.Where many players resign after only a few moves in a tourney game, less than 10 moves and still in book.Perhaps that is a form of rating manipulation as well? I do not get involved in such childish behavior or tourney games, but I still see things. I find the whole thing laughable.

I thought those sort of things were usually found and dealt with? But yes, sounds suspicious.

I find those things, including tourney game losses(resignations, not actual real losses)when I go through some of the newer players on GK and check their game history. When I see a string of losses and see that it is in the "teens",sometimes less than 10 moves and the player is over 2200 in rating, sometimes 2300+,then I know that there is something going on.Perhaps the player simply wants to keep their rating down? But it does involve a tourney game sometimes. Now,whether that just affects the player himself or members of a tourney as a team,I have no idea, since I do not get involved in tourneys, teams or leagues.I am not here to be a squealer however or mention names.Just making an observation.I usually do not play those types of players anyway that have something up their sleeve.
