I am not into any of this new App anything, being from the old school.
I still have trouble just trying to figure out my smartphone!

But let me ask a "reverse"question:
Name me any chess game site that DOES have it available in an "appstore"?

If there are none, then that would have answered the question ahead of time,by logical deduction.

I have been a member of over 10 chess sites since the 1980's,many names that are not even in existence anymore. You always had to go to the site directly, create an account and usually pay a fee to play.Non paying members were permitted many times, but that left the free player with much less "bells and whistles"and limits to their game playing.Since I do not play GK games on my smart phone(except to check if someone moved),then go home and respond on my big screen PC,Apps are meaningless to me.But my question above still remains. My guess is that if there are any "Apps"for chess sites,it is on the rare side,if any.

Chess.com
Hi Lucas,

With your post, just out of curiosity, I checked Google Play Store for Chess.com. I believe it is the most popular chess site. Their app has a 4.7 rating with over 1 million reviews. Recently, I created a profile on their website because a local chess club was hosting an online tournament on Chess.com. But, I found their website interface to be horrible and didn't join the tournament. I'm an IT guy (for what it's worth) and it took some time to find my current games from the home page.

Anyway, I'm more like you. I prefer to make most of my moves on GK's website, not on the browser app. Most of the opening moves, I will use the browser app on my phone but once in the middle game, I do my best to make moves on the website as I find that make more poor moves on my phone.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks Matt
I am not into that app stuff and was just curious. As I mentioned,I doubt that apps are common with chess sites unless they are big monsters like chess.com.While GK is "relatively"big,it probably pales in comparison to chess.com,since GK has always been considered more of a smaller knit community of players internationally. With my fat fingers,I would probably press the wrong move in a game with my smaller smart phone.Plus,I do not see how one can have a deep embedded
opening book like Hiarcs downloaded into a phone which requires a ton of memory space. If it can be done,I would imagine their would be space memory problems and slowdowns.

I remembered joining chess.com over a decade ago and found it distasteful with the interface and other issues as you mentioned.Yet,people are drawn to it,probably due to more bells and whistles, perhaps even rated blitz,I forget.Same with Red Hot Pawn,Instantchess and other chess sites.I belonged to them all...and GK still comes out on top for me.I would not be a life member if it were not so.

Lichess.org is my favorite. It has an app which is great. Gameknot still has a place in my heart for old times sake. Chess.com is okay. Most people I meet seem to play there
