Gameknot site down
I could not reach Gameknot for several hours. I tried site to find out if i was the only one. I was not. I was surprised when the site was on again , there was no notice. What if there are time outs??

Cloudflare location Amsterdam was down for five, six, maybe seven hours. This must have caused timeouts.

This must have caused losses by timeout already and will be the cause of more timeouts in the coming days.
In the past, with any downtime due to site problems or upgrading... GK added time to all players. If I remember correctly, any time-outs due to the downtime also had the game(s) reinstated from just before the time-out with added hours or days. But we are under new management,so I do not know.If there were any time-outs,I have not heard as of yet in the forums, since I would assume the complaints will come pouring in.

I also had problems and this morning had an emergency timeout, good job I have that facility and haven't used it too much. Hopefully GK will 'reinstate' games if timed out. It may make players frustrated and decide to play elsewhere if not, which would be unfortunate to say the least!

Really disappointing you had the emergency timeout kick in, I believe this should have been swiftly dealt with on another level. There must be protocols for this type of situation.

Monday 2th januari, afternoon. Amsterdam. Site was down again. Few hours.

Cloudflare in San Jose, California was also down
The error message I got was that Cloudflare located in San Jose, California, USA was down. I think that when Cloudflare goes down it reports the closest location. I don't think Amsterdam was necessarily the cause. Also consider the date and time: The outage occurred around 1AM Pacific Standard Time on Jan 2nd, the day that New Years is being observed in the USA (since it fell on a Sunday this year). If I worked for Cloudflare this would be the perfect time for maintenance when most everyone is sleeping off their hangovers. I suspect that Cloudflare announced their planned maintenance to their subscribers, but that GK neglected to let us little people know.
Earthquakes in California
Also consider that Cloudflare is headquartered in California and that California has been hit with a series of earthquakes on Dec 31 and Jan 1. This might have something to do with unscheduled maintenance occurring Jan 2 at 1 AM PST.
So much for the cloud...
Cloudflare provides website security and cloud services. You would think that their "cloud" services would be more robust when it comes to earthquakes and maintenance!?
I think
that the site might be down for another player, chicoboy. And, that's because when Gerhard moves, makes a move, it does not stay put. And, what this means is that he is having problems submitting the moves, when he hits the submit button.

I am not sure, but I do not think GK has been "down"recently. Most of the posts above are from over one year ago, like in Dec of 2022 through Jan of 2023..But then,I am not on GK nearly as often as I once was. Plus, other than some blitz,I am not playing any reg GK games right now. So,if GK was down in the last recent weeks or months,I must have missed it.
There was a bit of an outage today, perhaps the new live chess feature is ‘overloading’ the server, if you’ll pardon the pun.
It was out for several hours today for me in England. Between 09:00 and 16:30.
Yes.When I posted above,it was ok,but I suppose with the time zone difference's... Not playing any important games right now anyway,so no concern with me.GK will add time to all games as always...at least that is what I read on the net.

GK has a single point of failure
My outage lasted for at least 7 hours, from 11 PM MDT (GMT+6) until at least 6 AM MDT. Back in the old days GK would have made sure no games timed-out, but contrary to claims on the net, GK didn't add any time to my games (one of my games had 4 hours left). When my company looked into hosting their data center on Azure, the cheapest package available was a "single data-center instance" with no alternate backup site, so that if one of the Azure sites went down, my company would go down because of the single point of failure. I'm guessing that whatever hosting site GK uses that they purchased the "single data-center instance" package.

"Between 09:00 and 16:30"
It was already out before 06:00 GMT!
If I combine the different reported times and convert to GMT, I figure the outage to be at least from 05:00 GMT until 16:30 GMT. Or to convert to GK's time (i.e. west coast daylight savings time) it was from 22:00 PDT until 08:30 PDT. How many people's games timed-out I wonder?

Gameknot site down
From Hungary (CEST), but for convenience I'll be using GMT. Site was down for me yesterday for 10+ hours. I checked it every hour during worktime -- I have an ongoing game against my boss --, but it was down the whole time. Is it safe/correct to assume that it was not a local outage, but a global one? If so, then nothing have happened yet about the things written here: gameknot.com At 15:46 GMT, I got an email about the emergency auto-postponement, while about an hour earlier the site was still down for me. I know, there was no timeout for me because of the auto-postponement, but hey, it's for emergency!
GK isn't following their written rules
Yes, the written rules in charger2752's link clearly state that everyone is supposed to get an extra 24 hours, and it's unfair that he lost his emergency auto-postponement. On Feb, 21, 2018 GK was down for a mere 2 hours and this rule was followed back then: gameknot.com
As someone who has been on GK for almost 19 years now, I remember several occasions where 24 hours were added for any noticeable downtime. It's not just timeouts/emergency postponements. When I finally got back on, I had to rush a couple of moves on games that were low on time. I can't remember if this has happened since the site was bought by the new owners, which I think was about 2 years ago now? Maybe they've not noticed this rule?
I can't remember it happening without some sort of notification, I was down to less than hour in 4 of my games ....rushing my moves anything could happen ! I've noticed a few 'glitches' on the site nothing serious but it all could add up to something

@nemesis1010
This was the third big downtime in less than a year, and the biggest one yet.

It's to due with Cloudflare I think. I'm not spamming the forum, it's just that this issue has been mentioned on more than one thread... I don't know exactly what Cloudflare does, but it must be something to do with making a website accessible to people. It's worse than having the internet down, you could maybe play on a mobile phone, or use a computer in a public library in that case.

Outage again with no added time
Second time in less than a month. On 16 aug, I had my emergency time-out triggered because of site outage. Now I was lucky, I got still 3 hours left to make my move, but again, no official statement, no added time...
@charger
Same here couldn't get on all morning , I've had more issues in the last 6 weeks than I've had in the last 16 years ...
Yes, I noticed too, it falls short of the high standards we’ve come to expect from GK.
Down for me again this morning for several hours. I don’t know of any way to contact GK to find out what’s going on. Martin

I was there when it went down at 01:15 this morning. So it was down for at least 5.5 hours.
