Advertising and tracking
I just did a manual logout and login, having been bumped from a tournament last month despite being logged in.

It was quite a shock. I got an egregiously bad cookie spam experience. Firstly, there was no ‘essential only’ option, only manage or accept everything. On going into the manage cookies option, I got a seriously long list of personal data groups, with preselected allow permissions for 71 vendors with ‘legitimate interest’.

As a paying member; I can think of no vendors with a legitimate interest in my personal data. The reason given was to better target adverts for me; I don’t get adverts. I can see a case for ad supported members.

The privacy dialog also came up before I even logged in, I can understand that might be easier to program, but I I going to this treatment every time I use a different device, or clear my browser cache?

So, my suggestions:
Don’t collect personal details or track paying customers, save that for those who prefer not to pay.
Do your permission to track for advertising after login, only for ad-supported customers; I’m not just paying not to see advertisements, I’m paying not to be tracked for advertising elsewhere.
If you really can’t put the cookie dialog after login, add a ‘Essential only’ button so you don’t annoy your paying customers.

Sorry for the rant

Thanks for sharing. I find this quite concerning, as one of the main reasons I paid for a membership was ‘no ads’. That’s a contract term afaic, and I understood it to include things like this. In fact, ‘no ads’ is the first thing on the list of benefits.

Would be interested in any response, but this ship seems Captain-less at present.

I am no computer expert,my nephew is the genius and computer Einstein and has help build a 10 core computer for me with intercoolers and knows everything. He can even get rid of hidden viruses that even gets past Nortons.I could ask him, when I get back to the states. However,I have never even one time encountered any issues with any ads, tracking or other things mentioned above.I have been on GK as a paying member always and since 2005.Not one time did I even have any bothersome issues as described above. So,it must be something in gordond system that probably needed to be purged out.GK never sends out any ads or weird tracking EXCEPT to non premium members.I know that free members must not have "ad blocking" on.GK has warned free members about that in the past and has suspended some free members for that.Cookies, spam?Never encountered that on GK ever since 2005!I also never heard of any other paying premium member to have the issues described above.Maybe if the paying member temporarily let their paying membership run out for a short time and then become a premium member again, that lag in between might raise an ad banner flag.So....good luck! From my experience outside of GK,my nephew has,in the past wiped my computer completely clean of everything(like a new store bought system),windows and everything was replaced with a new operating system and more. That antiseptic washing always does the trick.
