Exactly
The new feature has been announced, but how about letting us in on the secret?

I think the
New Feature is Announcing of New Features Thread ... isn't it ?!
At least some some have begged for that.
BTW, I have noticed a new feature tho ... apparently on GK you can use a "(" but not the counter-part of the pair?! Which of course is ")" .
Uh, where it Go !?!? : )
Ah ... There you are. Why why ?

Hmm, it looks like was just too subtle in my "announcement"... The new feature is that the emoticons are now shown as little images:
As usual, awaiting your comments, suggestions, any problems you have noticed with the new feature?

I hate emoticons

23-Sep-10, 01:38

Emoticons are meant for people, who can`t read between the lines.
My suggestion for a new improvement: † instead of +
black_cat_hamlet

Emoticons?
Ohhh, let's test it out!

    8)

hmm, let's see if all of these show up... but can I suggest somewhere (e.g. at the bottom along with the other special codes) that explains all the emoticon codes? Probably self-explanatory for most but you never know whether there might be ones you didn't know about

† looks kind of classy in some old books but still I prefer the computer era "+".
What is the combination to make this † anyway?

oh... THAT's what the kissy face would be for?

If Gameknot had it, i'd post the kissy face to my opponent right before I checkmated him

The kiss of death!

Easy19 ...
But we cannot walk in America! (There is only one foot for the brakes and one foot for the gas ... how could it be done ?!

that is easy
just wait until you are out of petrol or blow up your engine. ?

i am sure you have to walk to the nearest gas station, or that you have to collect Wood to start a fire for your SoS smoke signal...

I hate these stupid little smiley faces. They make the thread look messy and they strain my eyes while I try and figure out if it's a wink or frown. Naturally, I can usually guess, based on the context of the comments, but of course that only reinforces their redundancy.

Plus, that yellow circle dude is happy, always happy. It's wrong to make him frown. Just wrong. It's blasphemy.

You can always add a nose to the smiley face to prevent it from turning into an "emoticon". ;^)

Looks are deceiving
Don't let the smile & canary yellow color fool you   he's no Chicken. I saw him goad his neighbors into chasing him, until they were blue in the face; then he turned around and ATE THEM ALL ... He's a Cannibal~!  Ah, mmmm

Oh Cruel World!!!
When I first read this thread I immediately sent an email to myself using the different emoticons Gameknot now offers to make sure I knew how to properly make them.

All went according to plan until I tried make the "angry" emoticon

5 hours later, I had tried (and sent to myself) every symbol combination I could possibly think of. Nothing worked, even my kids (texting geniuses that they are) couldn't figure it out!

Finally, I emailed one of the more "famous" Gameknot members, begging for his help. I say "famous" because he posts to many of the different Gameknot Forums on a daily basis and always seems willing to assist any members that need help. I guess I caught him on a bad day however... Instead he decides I needed to suffer just a bit longer and emails me   and nothing else (no instructions on how to make it). Now   was staring back at me.... as if taunting me...

I wasn't amused, so I clicked on reply to tell him so... When you reply to emails on Gameknot the original email appears below the "reply box". Guess what??!! Well, for some reason if any emoticons are contained in the original email they appear only as symbols and not faces. So his angry face appeared in it's symbol form!!!

By the way, for any other "mentally challenged" people like me the angry face is made with ":" (colon) followed by "@" (ampersand)

Victory!                     ad infinitum, ad nauseum....

Ampersand
somer5lives, glad you worked it out. I know I would not have succeeded. But I think you will find
that the symbol '@' is actually 'at', and the ampersand (and) is '&'. Just being pedantic.

&
Of course, the winking emoticon I placed at the end of the last post didn't appear. I still have
some work to do, obviously.
