GK takes the lead!(fantasy desires)
Though GK reaches globally, a fantasy desire of this American would be that GK takes the lead striving to educate the elderly on line. The subject of which has been noteworthy is that most Americans are approaching ages of youth within the senior community. Barring geniuses/prodigies and youthful mental metamorphosis, the experienced(aged if you will)players see the wonders of IT before them and really do not understand how useful they are and for some, even how to use links, twitters, facebook and perhaps a small percentage have no clue how to e-mail due to not understanding small things that have big impact like "what does the CC stand for when trying to post the mail?" Most of us may agree that age = quality in chess due to experiences of past play. Even discuss better software(the best) to eliminate the irritation of slow start-up/v. mem. leaks/gobble of comp. space/ just any good thing for our computers to run at the best efficiency, which in turn helps the site deter bugs/lags and the like of the negative in cyber good stuff. I would have to say that I am prejudiced due to being limited in education within public schools which did not yet have these computers. Where have I been since then? Under water for greater than 13.5 years in the service of my country! Working at times in excess of 18-40hrs straight with very little rest! Hey, I'm sure not everyone fits a mold like mine, but if this touches anyone who lagged behind, and maybe missed the art of cyber worship, then drop a thread and speak up for the improvement of individuals/chess community and the betterment of on line services. Most likely a fantasy!!! I will enjoy the inputs.......thekingni

I find it remarkable that there are still living amongst us people who remember when today's must-have technological devices did not exist or were considered a rarity (e.g. automobiles, televisions, computers, anything made of plastic, etc.). Please before it's too late, spend time with an elderly friend or family member over the age of 80 and listen to THEIR experiences. Don't be like my niece who when invited to lunch with my 86 year-old mother spent the entire meal texting on her cell phone rather than engaging my mother in conversation. Just because our elders have failed to embrace some of our modern inconveniences, don't assume that their world is the poorer.

The nephews who "know"
Common how computer chess may be saved by our younger generation sharing time with us or just visiting with an assist with no geek charges! I now work outdoors! None of that indoor in a cubical for this guy now. Although it was fun to be in a tube listening to all the noises which biologics emanate, office chatter and listening to copiers create clones can't currently compare to the songs of birds/barks of dogs/church bells in the distance and an occasional horn or two. My son in law is the assistant in my camp(the nephews will surely come!). As for reminiscing, the phones had a central operator, shared lines and a crank on'em to wake the less than overwhelmed! Thank you for engaging in these important line of fantasy talk.....which reminds me Mark......if you muse with these past notes, just wait and see how the time line continues to quicken. The pace of which in just 20 yrs. the tech. market will overflow with so much innovation that a person could go broke just to search the way in which to keep up!! Can't own everything....public libraries will have them donated to them? Perhaps, we'll see!!!! How will chess prevail? the king and I
