Postponed games in tournements..... a question |
||
|
membershipcommitments... You'll get a quickly finished tournament but with most of the games ended with a timeout. Is that what you want? 1 day / move is way to fast to play correspondence chess worldwide. (timezones you know) |

Yes,for the most part,I agree with you that 1 day/move is generally too fast to play corresp worldwide. HOWEVER,believe it or not there ARE corresp chess sites that have 1 day/move games,especially in tournaments!!!How its done exactly,i'm not 100% sure.But it exists! If you do not believe this,simply check online with the chess sites I will mention in the next paragraph for yourself.You don't have to be a member to go online and click on the "help"section or "Faq" section to get that info!Infact,I just double checked that a few minutes ago myself! Two sites that come to mind are...."Chessatwork" and "RHP"(Redhotpawn).Years ago I played some corresp on those two sites using 1 day/move games.Yes,many of my opponents DID time-out,but thats besides the point!My point is simply that these things DO exist.So,in slight defense to amacivn,it IS possible regardless of the different time zones!How?I don't know,i'm only a humble senior master!If I remember correctly there were other chess sites as well that had the 1 day/move time,but i'd have to check my past data logs when I played on about 6 or 7 other chess sites...and i'm too lazy to do that! Would I personally desire the 1 day/move clock times?Yes!because I know that "I"wouldn't time out with my 1.4 hour average move time and that others would giving me some easy points!(How unfair....ha,ha!).But all is fair in love and chess as I say! Best, TA |

While GK is the best chess site on the internet,perhaps you should consider playing some games on the two sites I mentioned above?Atleast you will get your 1 day games!Or perhaps you are a member already with those 2 sites?I do not like the boards and piece design on those 2 sites and the competition is either too weak for me or unreliable,but there are alot of 1400+players on those sites,so maybe it would be your cup of tea? Lately,i've been hanging out at some of the expensive blitz pay sites under different handle names(shhhhh....my secret,you won't even know who I am!),but the one day move games are out there in cyberspace,even some WITHOUT a tourney,if I remember correctly! au revoir, TA |

Postponed games in tournements..... a questionI have yet to see a 24 hr time zone, it was just that reading the forum I'm not the only person who can get wrapped up in chess only to feel frustrated, i don't play chess i feel chess , i know this costs me points , but i get so many challenges from like players it makes this site........ my favorite , if i new how to use /open a paypal ( i do not currently use credit cards due to the glint in my girlfriends eye !!) account i would be a member. thanks to everybody for taking the time to put there messages up .and to the challenges which i will definitely respond to as soon as i can ( not due to timeouts !) |

I'm not sure if I read your post correctly,but are you considering the possibility of becoming a paying member?I'm not sure about paypal myself,and i also rarely use credit cards over the internet.I actually used a money order purchased at a local mini mart food store to pay GK!I assume a postal or bank money order would do just as well.This way you can skip paypal or a credit card or even skip a personal check.I don't know if that would be only a US money order however?But your bank can probably process some kind of international money order.And if not...don't worry!You can ALSO purchase one of those credit cards(like a master card) at the store and just preload it at the check-out with only the exact amout that would be for GK.So,even if someone gets those numbers,they can't use it,because it will have no value on it after you pay GK and then cut up and throw the card away! Paying members have so much more quality playing chess on GK....hope you also become one! |

amacivnIf you mean Mini Tournament however, you can always set up your own and request players that make several moves a day. In fact you can choose to make it invitational and then only Invite ones that do. However, there is no way but their own honor (and the possibility of excluding them from your later events) to hold them to it. And as you know, even the quickest playing and best intentioned can have Life interfere with Chess, as happens. And end up PP'g or slowing down in their play. *********** NEW IDEA: WHAT DO OTHERS THINK OF IT ? An interesting thought for GK Tounaments might be to offer players to request a fast play section and group the ones that do. And perhaps this would help GK in providing a satisfying event to more of the Fast Players by getting them into the same sections, if not providing an answer to hastening the overall event and avoiding the "1%" scenario. To Request inclusion however, a player should be required to have a history of less than one day average time of move. ***** T/A "But all is fair in love and chess as I say!" You're not fooling me with that one ... I know you're a tough but good sport from our blitz ... I havent seen you lose, but I did get a Check that one game, and you took it graciously. But agree is would be pointless to suggest Anything is fair in Love and Love, now that it claimed War has Rules to it ?! |

Hey Baronderkilt, I like the idea of the mini tournaments , one might suit me , time to check them out , your idea of the fast play tournament would cut out the postponements i think as those players could not enter, |

amacivn ... 3 +1 to total = 3 ... if that option is available. There would be three days to use for the first move, or whenever desired to use a full 3 days. But only one day added for making each move and they would never have more than 3 days to move. So it might go like this: *** You move first day, so should get +1, but already being at the 3 day max accumulation, you just stay with 3 days left. Move 2 you decide to take 2 days. So you are down to 1 left, +1 for moving = 2 days to use for move 3. Move 3 you use one day. 2 -1, +1 for move = 2 left. Move 4 you make same day. 2+1 = 3 left Move 5 is also that day. 3+1 = 4 days left ... but the Max keeps it to 3 days left instead. ETC. Not knowing if you are very familiar with the Allegro's, I wanted to try an example. And if you have already tried them, perhaps it will explain for someone else then. For keeping a fast pace, the number of days allowed at the start is not too important. The Total Days are more important. And the Days Added. imo. For instance something like 10 +2 Total 3 would very likely end up playing faster than a 3 +3 Total 5. As a practical matter. Cheers. |
