Rude blitz behavior
Just thought I'd share a humorous encounter with a rude player in blitz tonight. I have been playing blitz for like an hour and a half here on GameKnot tonight. Naturally when I play that long, I encounter previous opponents from games before. I ran into a player I had played one of my first games against and I had made a blunder to lose the game (Which happens to me too often!  ). I gave myself a quick little scold and moved on, no big deal.

Fast forward to this last game and apparently the player remembered me as well. He didn't say anything in the chat box the first game so I was mildly surprised to see this comment.

Anonymous (not calling him out): u suck
Me: Thank you

This was my only comment of the game. I'm generally sarcastic by nature to people like this. I could've easily kept my mouth shut but this was too hard to resist.

Him: i will beat u easily
Him: u suck
Him: really?
Him: cheap tricks?

The last two comments were made after I threatened his c2 pawn by moving my knight to b4 (he moved his queen away from the defense and moved it back. I like to make these kind of moves in increment games to gain a little more time.)

Him: u r wasting my time dumboooooooooo. I may have actually left a few o's out here...

Then he blundered his rook and gave a polite f*** u before he left.

Any other rude blitz stories people would like to share? I personally am not too annoyed by these people but I can definitely understand people who get drawn away from this type of behavior. Would this be an incident to report to GameKnot? I'm not sure what their policy is with this

This comes up
Every few months. And yes, it is an incident to report to Gameknot, you can easily get him in *big* trouble but you have to write down the game number, and you shouldn't really respond, I mean a sarcastic thank you isn't bad, but I've read some other threads and it gives some advice on how to deal with it.

I have not come up with these ideas myself, I've come up with them by reading other threads and they are brilliant in my opinion.

When someone starts being rude you have a few choices "Copy and paste a line of mandarin Chinese." (It's easy to get a line of Chinese from Google translation)

I think he also suggested waiting until they posted half a dozen lines and saying "nO speEKy EnGich."

Or, you can just ignore them and report them to Gameknot.

But really, making too many of these posts just causes them to do it more because they do it for attention. Anyway, I hope this post helps (And thank you for everyone else who first suggested these ideas) There are a whole lot more, but I like these the most.

Of course for the language ones to work you have to hide your nationality.

Its a matter of choice relative to how many times you are in the blitz rooms on GK.You do not have to do anything if your only playing blitz once in a while(in the way of reporting the immature rule breaker)and just want to "endure"the temporary rude behavior, laugh at it and then part.On the other hand,i'm playing GK blitz several times a week and probably playing about 100 games a week in the blitz room(not so much in summer, however). So,I may see it more than you and I have somewhat of a short fuse for this rude behavior.

Keep in mind that, whatever the reason...for attention,to use psychology against you for intimidation purposes to draw attention away from your game and make you lose or whatever the reason, its improper childish behavior and in my opinion, should be dealt with.I disagree that "making too many posts on the subject"will cause them to do it more. For they will not have the capability to do it more if they are suspended and/or ejected off the site. And I,for one, have personally had atleast a few thrown off the site....and will continue to do so,forever. There is no room on GK for this behavior and not all this childish behavior is being done by teenagers as someone once suggested to me,nor is in in the "spirit"of the game to act like a fool.It is only the fool who will end up "understanding"that they are the real fool when 3 days later they cannot access their account!

Just remember to give all the appropriate info on the game,time,date,paste/copy board # or whatever. The key is to say NOTHING back to the offending player in the blitz room...not one word. This gives you a better "court case" when GK gets your complaint.I've heard cases where you would swear back and take his "bait",but then, even if your opponent "started it",it did not matter, since now you have lowered your level to his and this just took your edge away for the complaint......and sure enough, some have lost their complaint case.Sure,it feels better to say something back, but then, wouldn't it feel better if you "killed"your opponent instead and did not have to put up with him again in the future? And keep in mind, then, you have prevented him from doing it to others, right? In addition,by saying something back to him, your offending opponent could theoretically also "complain"to GK...and who knows, maybe both of you will be suspended!

So guys,my opinion is to do as I do and don't stop reporting these individuals.Weed them out and destroy them.If more pop up,then do it over and over again. You will find that its alot of newbee's that come on the site or ones that do not play any or very little corresp games on GK.

Keeping the site as clean as possible is better for all in the long run.I have seen blitz sites practically destroyed because of the behaviors from a few.One site took away messaging privileges in the board area because the "infestation level" became so bad, that members were starting to leave the site and profits went down for the site owners.I'm not saying this will be the case on GK,but its not beyond impossibility. So get out your "weed"sprayers! And do GK,yourself and others a favor!!!!!

Remember, silence is your weapon when the foolish behavior starts and your "pen"will be mightier that his "pen"when you take them to court!Just let it be you may be thinking?Thats your choice, but not a good choice...believe me!I've been around alot more than you guys dealing with these things and my wisdom says otherwise!Cut the rotting limbs off of a healthy tree and the rest of the tree becomes stronger and endures.Get my drift?

Oh,rookie879,

In my opinion regarding what you quoted above from the offending player,I would say that yes,you have a case, but not with the bulk of what he wrote.I would say,the last line with the "f".But its not nearly the strongest case i've seen.I would wait in your case to complain to GK and more than probably this player's behavior will get worse next time. Then send the complaint in next time! Its a strategy that usually pays off...let the rabid animal get get worse, until you are "forced" to put him down! Most players do not know this, but the more complaints against a player, the better and there's a good chance that there will be other complaints against the said player above.

GK uses,in many cases, the "multiple complaint"method, from say 3 opponents and you may actually see this player disappear before you send in your complaint! In reality,my complaints are usually based upon alot WORSE than your example above. But the choice is yours!Even if it dosen't bother you rookie879,complain for others...you will be doing others a favor.

Above,I mentioned that some players accounts may be suspended.Yes,this may happen, but,in other cases,GK may simply decide to keep the player on GK but either:Suspend his chat and messaging privileges or possibly just suspend his blitz play capability.Either way,its a good thing for others as time goes by.Some players have ongoing games,so GK will allow the player to continue the game play. But again during this time, their chat will be discontinued and after the games are finished, then it is very possible they will be suspended either temporarily or permanently.

Remember:Its only a battle that you can win,not them...by keeping your cool and hiding that big stick behind you, using it when you think its necessary.

And think about one final detail:
Imagine a perpetual immature big mouth that is now "FORCED"to behave like a normal civilized player!Lets say,for example,he is allowed to play blitz, but his chatting has been suspended!
Think about the inner anguish he has within himself!Good! You have forced a "muzzle"on him!
So,if that isn't the ultimate punishment,I don't know what is!And who knows...maybe after 3 months GK will "unsuspend"his chat privileges and his wild antics will have been broken like a wild horse! If not, start, the process all over again!

I just started getting back into blitz on GK. I haven't played blitz in 6 months but I would say I've played 60-70 games over the last 3 nights. The aforementioned example was my first encounter with a rude opponent. He was completely silent the first game we played; which I lost. It was only after he beat me the first time where he started using his rude mouth! Maybe that was to my advantage

Anyways, I agree it really wasn't too bad until the f bomb was dropped but usually most people get worse as their prospects in the game worsens! I was let off by the fact that the game ended in his resignation abruptly.

Next time I encounter rude behavior from a blitz player, I will probably submit a complaint to GK. Maybe it won't be ban-worthy but worthy of a warning, sort of a strike if you will.

The warning could have a consequence of a temporary disabling of chat, like you mentioned. I like that idea of forcibly civilizing these kind of people

Well, not everyone agree's with me.But I really think its high time to start complaining.Do you know that their is more rude behavior in the summer months than in the winter?Yes,I keep tabs!
Part of it may be due to school letting out,but its not the only reason.

In any case, good luck!Believe it or not,I am certainly no "goody goody two shoes",or some religious fanatic with a halo, but when I respect something highly, like I do with this site, then I feel that keeping the floors mopped properly is the way to go!So,if my blitz opponent wants my dirty "mop"to slide across his face to force him to clean up his act...well,then...so be it!

I think you do
I absolutely agree with tactical_abyss. There was a different player who reported an incident, after someone made a very insulting comment. BTW, the comment did not involve any curses, but GK found him guilty of violating the rules as they were abusive. And, it wasn't quite as abusive as this. So, I think that you have a very strong case against this player. If that were me, I would just report it and put him on my ignore list.

Although this did not involve blitz, what I am talking about is shown in the thread below. gameknot.com So, this is why I feel that you have a winning case, rookie879.
