Bug in chess puzzles with improved matesHere's the starting position: The following position can be reached after: 1. Bb3+ Rf7 2. Bxf7+ Qxf7 3. Qxf7 kh8 4. Rxe7 Rg8 In this position, there's a possibility for a lovely queen sac in puzzle #220027 : 5. Qxg8+ Kxg8 6. Re8#. I tried it, but it wouldn't accept it. So I went to the alternate solutions to input this (and Qxf5, which also mates in two). But because this position is the same as in the longer solution, it automatically reverts the longer solution as soon as Rg8 is played, then tells me that Qxg8+ doesn't lead to checkmate in six, therefore it's disallowed. When I start from the beginning, following each specific move, as soon as it reaches this position it's back to the mate in seven solution and the program refuses to recognize the position can be reached in a shorter number of moves. Therefore, although there are different penultimate moves other than the one listed that also mate, it now only recognizes the ones entered when the puzzle was improved.

4.Rxe7 Nh6 Then the lovely Queen sac wouldn't work , and the puzzle might be correct , just a thought as # would take longer The sort of moves we see in tactics |

What we see in tactics I wasn't saying you are wrong , just showing that there is an option to your sac , (and I'd love to use the sac) But my move doesn't matter as the puzzle has gone , Confused ? Well I am going for a beer , I do the Chess tactics they are a different option |
