Presumably (hopefully) players who skip the easier problems (due to their stars) would get credited for those skipped problems (for the purpose of working out whether they get a new star (or lose an old one)? Nick

a1600, we are still figuring out what would be the best approach.
|
|
It's very simple! Just give first 3 puzzles free for each star. So if you have 3 star, you get first 9 puzzles free! First ones are very easy so you would make these very soon anyway. Maybe you take 3 sec for each of them? So 3 star players would have 9 solved and 4 minutes 33 sec to go (-27 sec) in the begin of a new try.

A vacation
Do I lose my stars if I postpone my games? Can I play blitz attack without a cancelation to my postponement? I'm having a vacation soon and worrying about my hard earned stars!

I don't think so...you will lose one star only if you try the blitz attack and your score is low.If you don't try it at all in the week you will not lose stars. That's for sure since once I never played blitz attack the whole week and they haven't take out my stars. Anyway you can play blitz attack even if you have postponed your games.
|
|
Okay, I'll soon get my 5 stars and then not play any more and I'll keep all my stars in safe!
|
|
Postponing your games (and setting a vacation flag for your account) currently has no effect on Blitz Attack. It might be open to abuse -- i.e. postponing to avoid facing a particularly tough competition. Right now if you are unable to play and lose a star, please simply compete the next week to gain the star back. Being able to retain your stars by simply not playing Blitz Attack was an oversight and will be fixed soon.

who is solving these at the rate of one every three seconds? 20 per minute is way out of my league. blazing through 30 positions in a minute and a half... wow!! congratulations to those that can but I feel this is out of reach for most mortals. I do love the Blitz Attack feature nonetheless even though I'm not very good at it.

Indeed none solves one position every three seconds...kingdawar,that has the best score, solved 54 positions in 5 minutes,it means 300 seconds. 300:54=5,5 seconds It is anyway an outstanding performance

I don't know how the increase in difficulty (of puzzle rush) at the other site relates to the increase in difficulty (of blitz attack) here. Over there, IM Casper Schoppen has a best of 105 (average 40.12 over 1277 attempts). He says that he recognises every puzzle after 40 (and many before) so it's more a case of near instant recall of the solution than solving it.

It would possible know how many players tried the blitz attack?I'd like to understand the ranking in relation to the number of players. Please,mr Gameknot, could you put this datum on the blitz attack page?

I lost a star in vacation!
I lost a star even I had a postponement and didn't have any try in Blitz Attack! So need to push again ....

Sorry tapanis, but after my post Gameknot posted(you can read it) and said: Being able to retain your stars by simply not playing Blitz Attack was an oversight and will be fixed soon. ------------ Evidently they have fixed it and you lost the star...
|
|
3 seconds is an average time to solve a position with a known attack (i.e. you already solved the same, or a very similar position before). Which is generally the case for earlier (easier) positions. It takes longer to actually analyze and find the correct solution if it's not a known pattern to you. We don't currently collect the stat for how many people tried Blitz Attack. Thank you for your suggestion.

I just noticed that,in my page of blitz attack, they wrote: Star skip: ⭐⭐⭐ - skip first 9 positions, time reduced by 27 seconds Is it something new,or I haven't noticed that before?

I haven't noticed that before, either... though I could have just overlooked it, I guess.

I've just had a go on it. Star skip (4 stars) skip first 12 positions, time reduced by 36 seconds. I was thinking I'd definitely lose a star this week... it's currently 37 correct to get the fifth star, while 35 correct or less knocks me back down to 3 stars. I just got 34 (22 plus the skipped 12) and I wasn't doing especially well... though I wasn't doing especially badly (for me) either...
|
|
Yes, the star skip is a new feature that was just released. Enjoy!

It seems to me that the stars system is made so that if you don't improve you lose the stars. Then when you will reach your max level, you will lose all your stars...
|

If a player doesn't improve, they might start to slowly lose stars... but as they lose stars it will get increasingly difficult to lose the stars, as the number of problems they need to solve to at least retain their stars will get smaller. The stars really depend on other players more than one's ability though. If a lot of people improve, the number of solves necessary to gain/keep a star will gradually increase... if a lot of strong(er) players get bored with it (when they eventually just remember the solution to every problem and the number they solve depends solely on the speed of their fingers) and stop playing... the number of solves to gain/keep a star will decrease. Besides, GK could always change the way the system works later on, they've already done so with the skip feature. At some point they could maybe increase the number of stars it was possible to get.

Blitz Attack Time Losses
I love BA, however I have experienced a fairly repeatable issue with lost time between board changes. Sometimes once the board is completed it just locks up and there can be 30 to 45 seconds loss waiting on the new board to appear. I think there is an easy way to solve this issue. Simply stop the the clock until the next board is presented. The other alternative would be to buffer a large number of boards before the initial start and then keep the buffer fresh in the background. I love GameKnot. @Gameknot
It would be possible to put in the personal history of the blitz attack even the time left?It would be useful to understand how to manage time...

Review Blitz Attack errors
Chess.com has the similar "Puzzle Rush". It has a nice feature which allows review of puzzles answered incorrectly. Can a similar feature be added to Blitz Attack? Please!
|
|
You can click on the chessboard icon(s) in the "Failed" column to review the puzzles you have failed to solve. If you are unclear as to why the move you tried doesn't solve it, there is an option to play it vs a built-in chess engine.

Review blitz attack errors; revisited
Now that I "found" the failed column, I would like to suggest another feature. While reviewing failed blitz puzzles it would be nice if we could move to the next failure with the click of the mouse. Thanks,John

Blitz Attack Errors
I would highly recommend taking a note of all blitz attack problems that you fail. If you move the cursor over the symbol it will show you the tactics number.
