The time controls seem to be:

Fixed (3 minutes/5 minutes/10 minutes): no increment

Blitz (3 minutes): +3 seconds/+5seconds/+10 seconds

Rapid (5 minutes): +10 seconds/+15 seconds/+20 seconds

Long (10 minutes): +20 seconds/+30 seconds/+60 seconds

P.S. I haven't played it.

It also seems like the different time controls might benefit from being rated separately...

In contrast to TA, it's very, very different then anything I've ever seen because it implies that it determines your real life rating. And, I know that it doesn't because it's not the same as playing in an OTB tournament game for something like a championship round. Having said that, when I went to find out more about this, it said, "Live Chess games will have a separate Live Chess Rating." And, this brings me more questions then answers. Having said that, I might, at some point, be interested in checking it out. But, now is not the time.

it works..

For me it works, but it depends also on which time control I seek.. In fact sometimes it's difficult to find opponents for incremental 3m+3s , I think most people here prefer slower time increments..

Hi,

I am finding games quickly, but often they are against accounts with zero regular games, in which case I am not sure how serious these people are nor how strong. I guess that's ok, just part of the deal, but right now I had one such account and the player just resigns after 10 moves. That way it becomes a waste of my time.

I would like a setting so that I can auto-decline opponents with < x finished games on gameknot. That of course would limit my chance of finding a game, but so be it.

Opinions?

My Live Chess isn't working

It keeps on saying Login failed but I am successfully logged in. I thought it might be a chrome setting, however, I logged into gameknot from Edge, same problem.

Yes I have the same thing today.

Yesterday there were a few hours in the day that I could not log in to Gameknot all together.

Occasionally, Gameknot has a problem with "Cloudflare". I don't know exactly what Cloudflare is or does... but when Gameknot's can't access Cloudflare, we can't get into Gameknot.

live chess time controls

When you indicate that you want 5 minutes and 20 seconds, and 10 minutes and 20 seconds, how do you know which one you are going to get? The shorter game, or the longer game?

But, I think that the only way to know is if you say that you don't want increments. And, I'm not sure about now. But, this was an option before the blitz became live, rated.

Just select the option you want in both drop down option boxes and you will get that option - otherwise it just depends on which option becomes available first.

Joe, have you considered that you might be the top-rated blitz player? And thus you can't expect to gain many more points? Unlike the CC ratings there doesn't seem to be an easy way to list the top blitz ratings, but looking at your blitz history I don't find many opponents even close to your rating. If I sort your blitz history by your opponents' rating, the highest player in your play list is freestyler2012 who is only 2003 compared to your 2157.

I spent about 30 minutes backtracking through blitz playlists of opponents and their oppponent's opponents, etc. and here is a list of the top rated live chess blitz players that I could find without too much effort:

Gameknot losing "active" players

Another factor that might impede achieving a higher blitz rating is that the number of active Gameknot players has decreased by around 33% over the last 7 years. Please see my reasoning in a different thread: gameknot.com
