No more life memberships available?
I have not seen GK offer this for a very long time now.If I remember correctly, the option for obtaining a life membership was usually presented about every 5 years. Its been far over than timetable since the the last one which must have been in 2018 or a bit later, since I have a life membership right now and my new acccount started in 2018.But I know its been over 5 years then, since the last one. With a life membership like a few others,I have set it and forget it now, with no need to place money down every year to pay to play.Perhaps the new owners of GK do not want to offer it again, maybe not even know much about it.But over 15 years ago it was first offered,so life memberships do indeed go back a long way.I started here in 2005(under different accounts),so I remember all the offers over the years and atleast 3 times it was offered.

I am relatively inactive now.I reached a rating goal like I had years ago on GK and kind of say to myself....I reached the top of "my" mountain again,so no need to climb any further. So,I may not be availing myself of the money I paid years ago,but I am content.Funny, but when I kick the bucket,my life membership will still exist until the day GK dies. Its my understanding that they do not close accounts anymore like they used to in the old days, even if there is no activity.GK used to tell us that you must log in at least once a year to keep your account from closing(if I remember correctly). But as to me,I keep logged in 100% of the time,so its a moot point. For example, one of my best friends on GK...shamash gameknot.com has not played for 3 years now and been inactive, yet his profile account still exists.
Many believe he has passed away and he never responds to any PM's sent to him.I think he had a life membership as well, which answers it.

Best,
Joe

Well, I wasn’t sure when I first joined GK, as my memory is not as good as it was. Fortunately, it’s up in my profile - 2005, same year as you, Joe. I remember playing for free to begin with, but really disliked the ads and other free member drawbacks. Then the gold lifetime membership opportunity came and it was the best ton I ever spent. I wonder how much more than £100 I would have needed to pay to keep the membership for 21 years?

I doubt the offer will be repeated often, or even at all, Joe, don’t burn bridges!

I remember shamash fondly too. He mentioned that correspondence chess is a ‘treasure hunt’ - a perfect way to describe it.

Take care,
Tim.

@Tim
I also forget the exact year for the 1st Life Mem,but I know there were 3 of them somewhere between 2005 and the present. The reason I know this is because I had 3 of them! Then I must have quit as a life member, then rejoined again shortly thereafter with another life. But as far as I remember,I had left GK 3 times, closed my account and returned with a new account and shortly after... a Life was offered again.kingdawar would know those answers, but I have forgotton. But that is a moot point.

Others have asked me about any new life memberships and I have no answer for them except that....don't hold your breath! That was with Mike, not the new management. If it is offered again,it probably will have inflation attached to it.If I remember correctly,I paid 181.00 dollars around 2018 or 2019? for the Life.I do not keep records back that far.

As to burning bridges that depends NOT on me but others.
I will only put up with so much crap, then I disappear. We will see.
Years ago,the club wars were bad enough, now its some little battles
that I want to distance myself from.Best that I remove myself from
these forums which I may still do...for someone is always hiding
around the corner with knives.Get my drift?

Take care Tim

Joe
