Gameknot under maintenence
Hello everyone,

We sincerely apologize for the ongoing issues on Gameknot regarding the Cloudflare 520 error messages some people are seeing, as well as the required Cloudflare verification we have implemented. This is an ongoing issue, and we are still working hard at resolving it.

Cloudflare protects our website; it is not a virus, and it ensures connections to the website are from humans, not bots. This does mean you will need to sign in more frequently and pass the "are you human" step often.

If you are still experiencing the Cloudflare 520 error, you can try using a different web browser or browsing app, such as Firefox, or try resetting your router. You can do this by unplugging your router for a few minutes, then plugging it back in again. This will turn off the source of your wifi signal while it is unplugged.

The support desk is currently overloaded with support requests regarding these issues, so replies are a little slow to get out. Please do not share your IP address with anyone other than the support desk (e.g., do not post it here!).

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We care deeply about Gameknot and are working hard to get it back to its normal state.

It isn't just under manteinance. There is a problem with the web server. And, it says, "There is an unknown connection issue between Cloudflare and the origin web server. As a result, the web page can not be displayed." Having said that, I let this go, when it was just happening on Google Chrome. But, now I can't log on through Microsoft Edge because of this. And, it's occassionally happening on Avast and AOL. Plus, I had my father disconnect and reconnect the Motem and Router to try and fix this problem. And, it's still happening which means that it's through Gameknot's end which means. And, I don't want it happening where I can not log back onto GK again or, possibly, start timing out on games because of this!

Hello,

We are aware of the Cloudflare error - we are working on our servers to hopefully resolve this issue. You can try clearing your cookies on your browser; however, this issue is likely to recur once it begins.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Why not update GK's chess database and make it public?
Rather than fight data scrapers with Cloudflare, why not make GK's chess database available to the internet? Having more games added to the world-wide chess community's databases is a good thing.

And why we're on the subject of GK's player game database, the previous owner would update it every few months. Since GK was acquired by new owners the game database hasn't been updated since June 21, 2021 (please see gameknot.com ).

Chicago Cloudfair
Unable to log on to GK for quite some time. One of my teammates got back to me after he had timed out in a few team games. Stating he timed out because he was unable to connect to the server. GK, lost games because of technical issues?

Cloudflare issue
Hi,
Has there been any further update on this issue ? It’s getting worse at my end, not connecting etc etc - my uncle who can’t message on here as he’s unable to log on hasn’t been able to access GKfor around 3 weeks due to this issue - I fear GK will be so secure that nobody not even us chess players will be able to log on soon!!

I'm noticing an uptick in games ending by timeout too.

Has There Been Any Progress?
I am curious about the latest.

Although I have so far had consistent access on Microsoft Edge on my laptop, for the moment both of the browsers that I use on my phone (Samsung and Chrome) are giving me that Cloudflare 520 Error. And I began using the Chrome browser in the first place because I could no longer reach GameKnot on the Samsung browser!

My impression as team captain has been that there has been an increase in games that my team has won due to timeouts.

One formerly reliable player on my team has timed out two batches of games. During game chat he wrote (before he began timing out games again, including the one versus me in which he wrote the chat), "almost got locked out of gameknot again if you see me disappear that will be why."
