Reading comprehensionI mentioned only 3 different real examples that happened, the reason I did not put more is that I would be overstating the point. Ten more posts with similar examples would only spam the topic (not that this consideration stopped others). In any case nothing will change - for the time being I will still play Blitz on GK occasionally for reasons stated (when I find the time to search maybe I will migrate to another correspondence Website with better Blitz application), will run into rude players every time I play, they will "coincidentally" always be from same countries and my Ignore list will still do nothing to avoid them. Meanwhile people who habitually misinterpret my posts will still do so and I will stop correcting them or just expand my Ignore list. |

Marin"I wonder what is the reason behind extremely bad manners from UK and US players?" That is a question that can never have any answer and it appears to generalize UK and US chess players as ill-mannered; instead of a question asking for an answer, it is a question that is asking for an unfriendly exchange of messages... |

Yes, but...Is there a reason to ignore all my other posts and just pile up on the original one? Anyway, I fail to understand how am I generalizing anything, if there is a clear pattern in the "style" of rudeness from a group of people then there could be an underlying reason. It is well known that one of maxims of Soviet chess approach has been "win with White, draw with Black" - following that logic then it is very possible that someone is teaching US/UK players to avoid defeat using ANY MEANS POSSIBLE. Since all problematic ones are doing exactly the same thing then some conclusions tend to present themselves. |

Indeed.en.wikipedia.org <<It is committed when someone asks a question that presupposes something that has not been proven or accepted by all the people involved. This fallacy is often used rhetorically, so that the question limits direct replies to those that serve the questioner's agenda.>> It might very well be that Marin has made a mistake here. If that is the case, I won't hold it against him - we all make them. |

MarinIt's a simple matter of statistics, you bump into more "a-holes" from the US/UK because the higher percentage of players are from those areas. More people, more chances, know what I mean? I'm sure there are just as many nice people but we do not speak of them because they're forgot about, only the irritations are brought about in conversation. |

That is another issueIf there was a working Ignore/Buddy list for Blitz application, very soon I would be able to completely avoid idiots and increase the quality of my Blitz experience. In time, probably around 100 Ignores and 50-100 Buddies would be realistic and quite enough. |

I have lost to players mostly from UK and USA... I therefore assume the best players come from these two countries. I have won mostly against players from UK and USA... I therefore conclude that the worst players come from these two countries. Most of my draws are against players from UK and USA... I therefore conclude that my game is on a par with players from these two countries. I think my logic is flawed... |

These old posts always interest meBlitz will always be a target of "rudeness"as the header suggests. Even in my old club here,we had some discussions and this is just one thread: gameknot.com Many of the problems, however have ceased with dumb remarks because back in the day on GK there was no chat off feature. That only came later by MY suggestion here in 2009 along with others: gameknot.com Eventually GK got the message and added the chat off feature. In my extreme wisdom regarding blitz, more rudeness has and will occur MUCH MORE in unrated games than in rated games. Now,GK it appears has eliminated unrated Blitz games, even though the option selection switch still exists. It just seems inactive to me. In addition and many of you are not aware of this,Mike and myself helped get RID of atleast 7 or 8 blitz trolls that always gave others childish and insulting remarks on the blitz comments. The system worked.I complained,he took count and after 3 complaints by either me or 2 others...the blitz player lost his blitz playing privileges and a few were thrown OFF the GK site. This cleaned up the blitz room considerably. The key was to not respond back to them and take note of the time, date and blitz game # and exactly what was said for the record. If you lacked any of this info, the complaint did not count. Now,with the new management, things may have changed,I do not know. But statistically,I have noticed that past or present,if a player has that 1200 rating with no regular GK C.C.games played and only blitz, then there is a much higher probability that is where any bad comments will come from. When I mean bad,I do not mean a bad joke, but insulting and extremely rude behavior with words.I have gone through those type of opponents more times than I can count.Having chat off now, eliminates this, but then, not everyone wants the chat off,so then a "troll"can slip through,so you risk that as a possibility. Many times the troll just wants to upset you so that you lose your blitz game concentration. Many other times its just a nasty young kid that needs to grow up.I try and ignore them all which gets them even madder sometimes! But that is good! Why?Well, reverse psychology! It can thrown them off,if they see you are not caring what they say.But then what happens? A few times they made the dumb,DUMB mistake of then giving me a PM with the same rudeness! Ahhhhh...that is when I drop the anvil on them! For now,the PM record clearly shows their rudeness and I can complain with usually a warning given to them or worse. Blitz on GK has,for the most part cleaned up and the blitz players have gotten much more mature.Rated blitz helps because more serious players get involved than in unrated blitz and the rated blitz players do not want to lose or get suspended by writing dumb/insulting remarks. But,watch out for any new players just coming to GK who have no etiquette or do not know the story. I tend to,but not always, use the "chat off"feature, but then that still leaves me open to rude PM's.....rare,but it does happen.Thats life in blitz....a totally different world than regular GK C.C.games. I once had a suggestion that their be an "option"to have a chat "block"feature for any and all PM's,with the exception of GK staff,at least for premium members.Hey,some members simply want complete privacy and do not want or need any unexpected PM's.Now,this may have to be filtered with say, team game notices ect,but there are ways to do it,I am sure. Best, TA Joe Now,back to my mango margarita! Its 84F today,(28.8 C)in St Barts. I heard that there is a big snowstorm traveling across the USA and reaching my old stomping ground...NE Pa above Philadelphia Pa. Well...you guys drink your coffee and tea.I will have a nice frosty mango marg laced with Raspberry Chambord on the top!😊🍷 |

Yes Mark....Notice,however,those comments were made by my opponents,NOT me, with the exception of just a scant few later on with only a few words in gallows humor defense. And those words of mine were to keep him talking so that I could then time him out! See,I only play 3 or 5 min with 0 increment,so,the longer my opponent acts like an idiot, the less time he has to move!! He simply does not know that he is becoming his OWN demise. And you said it.... "How is it possible to play blitz and type at the same time"? Yes,talk trash all you want in blitz because against me,that only solidifies your demise. These dudes never learn....but "I" will instruct whether by the opponents own immaturity or by my blitz strength and experience....which INCLUDES handling these so called "human beings". Yes,Mark its funny but after a while its more bitter sweet and at times downright ridiculous.Others may not take their insults as well and fall prey to their idiocies. Most of that dinosaur behavoir from my opponents has disappeared over the years, but occassionally it does reappear. Take note however that I NEVER initiate the trolling but only receive it.Not once ever, did I first make a comment to my opponent like those samples above. So,I "carry"concealed, but never pull my words out unless I become "annoyed"with the assailant. TA |

once in a while and kept it in my "mouse",even before a game appears in front of me! That way,it takes no time to paste it onto the blitz message line. That is an old trick to save time, especially if it is a general defensive response that can apply to anyone. Now,its just better to keep my chat off in those blitz rooms.Although that is a bit impersonal and cold, because the opponent might want to just say Hi or GG.But then,it is a safer way to avoid the "nut cases".Less nuts these days, fortunately. |

These old posts on Blitz bring back memories. But I just wanted to update my findings relative to the old days. While I do not take blitz seriously on this site compared to other main blitz sites I have been on,I noticed a "newer trend"in the GK blitz room board chat, mainly good. Now,many would not know of any "change"because they may not have played as many games as I have over the last year or more. Ever since rated blitz appeared a while back, the "bad chat"has not washed up but has indeed disappeared to a very large degree.I attribute that to more serious blitz players compared to the unrated blitz where many did not care about winning, losing or anything else.I also know that MORE players are using the chat off feature. But when the "uncaring"happens like in unrated blitz, then of course, some minds begin to wander, maybe get bored and some players will tend to become testy, rude(on purpose like in my links above)and more.So yes,I believe that rated blitz does indeed bring in a better class of players. Now,out of all the players since rated blitz appeared on GK,I only have 2 players that persistently act like idiots on my board, one of them following me into my PM.Had to use the ignore on him.But all in all,it definitely has improved to say the least. I have asked several of my close friends on ICC to come to the smaller village of GK chess players, but they are waiting for many blitz features to improve.A few of them could crush me like a big foot on an ant in blitz, even if I am 2500+ rated on another blitz site.I would love them to come here and step on me!But again,I do see improvement here for the better. So,as to which country has the most bad mouth players....that stat technically does not exist anymore like in the past! Sometimes I still use the "chat off"feature anyway. When your an old guy like me,sometimes I simply do not want any chat, even good chat...just silence, calm and contentment. Its a matter of choice and not rude to NOT chat. Most do not say "good game"anymore like they use to and just leave instantly after they won or lost,so I do not even have time to say...."good game"(GG)! Saying that is a cliche anyway, not a necessity. Joe |
