Why not games with 1 day time limits?
There have been other chess sites that have this option as I remember.I heard the argument about other time zones around the world, but so what?If some players like faster games then each opponents "clock"will simply start counting down from 24 hours regardless if it is 2am,2 pm or any other hour or day in that particular area of the world. So world time zones really should not matter. 24 hours to move is still a lot of time.I would love to see this option.Perhaps some players in the same time zone might decide to play using a one day option.I really see no big issue on that, since many of my opponents still move when I am sleeping,so who cares?I still have at least another 16 hours to make a move when I awake!

You can always find players who like to play fast (but are not forced to by the time control) by looking at their profile page. You can also set the corresponding option when creating a new game for other players to join. We also have Fischer/incremental time control with +1 day setting, which requires the player to make a move every day most of the time, but also provides a safety net in case you need more time once in a while. It's not just the time zones, but also the fact that checking on your games every day is not enough for "1 day per move", which is not a trivial thing to realize, and can lead to unnecessary time-outs and frustration. Thanks GK.I see what you are saying but it is still not the "real thing"as an actual one day time limit. The idea is to force both players to move in 24 hours or yes,time-out and yes be frustrated. One can get a driving ticket for moving too slow on the highway, just as easily as speeding. That can just as easily occur in a 2 day per move game. Its simply a matter of discipline or "learned"discipline. One day move games IS for risk takers and I am sure many would agree with me.As to Fischer time controls that is a great idea, but probably not nearly as popular as the standard time controls.Plus, time is added anyway,I believe on Saturdays or holidays for all games including a "theoretical" one day time limit game.In addition,I suppose,a Fischer time control could be initiated on a one day time limit game.Just my thoughts. All I know is that 1 day time controls do exist,I just forget which chess site it was, since that was a few years ago and that was with worldwide players, not just from one geographic area. Thanks again GK for this great site. Lucas

I am actually glad that it's like that. For me, one day is nowhere near enough time for me. And, at the time, even with minimum time controls of 2-3 days per move, without incrementals, I was moving at the speed of blitz. My fastest average time per move was 16.8 minutes a number of years ago, and I was corrected for moving too fast. I didn't really change my ways, until, first, GK put in the bars which also shows how much your moving. So, all 5 bars lit, for example, means that you're moving many times per day which I was guilty of. That was combined with my work schedule, and that's when I realized that I was playing too many games at one time and moving too quick. So, I cut back, significantly, so that, at the time, I wasn't playing more then 6 games at once which was a big jump from 20-30. And, I went much slower so that I went down to only 1 bar which means that I'm moving once every several days. Having said, my automatic decline challenge rules starts at 7 days per move because I need all the time in the world.

Yes,I believe that one day time controls is certainly not for many players. But it may indeed be perfect for others.Plus, that is only an option, not a law. Some people do have all the time in the world and are not even working any job at all,not going to school, maybe not even cleaning. In fact,I have a cleaning lady that comes once a week while I bathe in the sun.So everyone's life style is different.Again,I have seen 1 day time limits somewhere,I simply cannot remember anymore where I seen it.No big deal, just wondering about possible options and upgrades to this site since it is my understanding that new things are coming. I for one am glad we don't have one day time controls I couldn't keep up with with that on a regular basis. When I start a new game I set at 4 days. Which is more than enough time for me. When chess is my prioty I ususaly play several times a day and even go so far as enter cond. move on games where it is my opppnents turn. But as of this typing I am in the middle of two projects and can't check this site as often(and rating as suffered). Three days is about ri1ght. Only time I play 2 day controls is in the tourneys and there I feel rushed sometimes. In short time I spend on here varies and I can't be on here everyday sometimes so 1 days wouldn't work

Yes,evader, everyone is different. Most of my games are different than yours. Most or many of my games are 2 day time limits which my opponents agree to.If there were 1 day time limits,my other opponent would have to agree with it or no game will be allowed. And that is the difference. See,I have the time where others do not.And I am sure that there are others on this site that would see it my way.It is a moot point however,as they say, since,as far as someone told me by message,GK will not probably allow it because of different worldwide and international time zone differences. But even then,I think that it can be possible(and was done on another chess site)and of course,it boils down to two opponents either of the same time zone or simply use a countdown of the 24 hr chess clock, regardless of time zone differences.

labyrinthine your are right both players would have to agree to it. It would be like anything else on here don't like it, don't use it. I proprosed a time bank/total time per game just a while back. That seems to be a no go as well. Yeah everyone on here is different. Some come to1 relax. Other take games more seriously than others. Still others use a computer. I, personly, am about rating. And use a computer post game to see what I could have done different.

Yes.Nice site, nice people so far here, but I see issues in some of the clubs from looking over their posts. Some strange posts indeed.Well,I do not know anyone on GK and other than a few comments in the forums,I will keep to myself. The one day time limit was just an idea, especially for those who play with no patience and like a chess game which has no tomorrow! That can be me,but not always...depends upon what I am drinking on the beach!

There are far too many people on this website who make one move then disappear offline. I would have thought the purpose of joining the site was to play Chess. I would certainly back the option of 1 day time limits. Let the time wasters play amongst themselves.

Can anybody cite the rule that states it’s not permitted to make one move and then go offline? Or maybe the informal rule that declares such a practice to be be poor etiquette? I’m a little puzzled, as I thought such a practice was very in keeping with correspondence chess -which is what this site is, I believe. There are faster controls in other GK areas (eg blitz.) I wouldn’t mind if the OP request was taken up; then those who like to play fast in the CC area can be allowed to do so at their own risk, without troubling those who prefer to play more in the spirit of CC.

I was a member of another chess site years ago that had one day time limits,I forget the name of the site, however, since it was a while back.I do remember many of my opponents timing-out since they bit off more than they can chew. But that was the name of the game.GK probably would not allow one day time limits due to so many time zone differences and players not paying full attention to international date lines, ect ect. My suggestion, however,if it is "time zones" as the reason,to make all one day time limit games playable as unrated only. This would avoid artificial rating inflation when the opponent times out,as many sure will.

Good suggestion, SSP! I remember a couple of sites with 1 day per move games - there were truckloads of time-outs. Some players racked them up just before tournaments started too; what an extraordinary co-incidence.

How about adding Time Zones as part of the new game filter?

Suggestion: New time control: 36 hours!
A 36 hours time control would end the discussion once and for all about time-outs even for fast players who want fast opponents in the first place, but get into serious time troubles because of unfavorable Time Zone positioning. I have had many (unexpected) time-outs on 24hs tourneys because of that, but only by as little as two or three hours over my limit, and for that reason I stopped playing those tourneys. By the way: I hated the suggestion of Time Zones as a filter, because one can play at night, or travel around the world, and it's so difficult to find good opponents, that would make it even harder. Besides, the objective of online game filters should never be to eliminate people from the opposite side of the globe. A 36 hours time control is something for which I think has zero downsides. I would only play tourneys with that time control.

Once I belonged to a chess site, with not only 24 hour time controls but you could have the auto scan search for players in a specific country that wanted a game immediately and only isolate that specific country. It was not a tourney site and originated in Russia. They had blitz as well and you could have the system scan for only players in one or two countries,at any hour of the day or night. It was expensive and the game board interface was not as good as GK's,so I left that site. But this way,by isolating a specific country, even a city and set the game for 24 hour time controls, there would be little reason for the time-out excuse.
