New rated blitz format review
OK.

I have tried the rated blitz in my usual 5 min, zero increment style.
What I do not like immediately is that, without checking "deeper" into a players profile
before or during the game commencing, you really DO NOT KNOW what the BLITZ rating strength
of the opponent is!Sure, its on his profile under "live chess rating",but it does NOT appear above the blitz game board. What does appear is ONLY their regular long game corresp rating.Since regular game strength can vastly differ from blitz ratings,it is actually misleading.

For example, one of my latest blitz games was with discusite.

discusite appeared to me on the BLITZ board at a 1916 rating. But his actual blitz rating is only 1368.The gameboard should have presented discusite as 1368,not 1916.To click on things to find out what his blitz rating is while the clock is running on the blitz board is a no no.So,when I defeated him,I only gained 5.7 points, which is ok,but should be more based upon a 1916 rating above the blitz board.Knowing WHO you are playing IMMEDIATELY,not who is falsely presented in rating strength on the blitz board is a critical key in INSTANTLY determining if
1.I want to play a lower or higher rated player and if not, cancel the game in 1 or 2 moves.
2.If I delay, even a few seconds to click on his name, profile(ect)and precheck his actual blitz rating, that will be costly in time loss and could cost me the game in the long run.

Since blitz and regular rating can vastly differ, the blitz rating should appear instantly on the blitz board, not the rating of a regular GK long game. This presents a strategy change in openings and how one plays,if they instantly know who they are confronted with. And in 5 minutes or less,I do not have the time to be clicking on the players name and checking his/her blitz rating in their profile.

This needs to be changed BIG TIME.
At first,I was wondering WHY I have been getting "trickle points",after defeating, for example,
drac68 who appeared to me as a 2219 rated player, when in fact, his blitz rating was only 1673.

My second lesser complaint is that using the usual bd= for downloading the game result
board on NON blitz boards works fine(regular GK games),BUT doing the same thing for the finished blitz game does not.Yes,you can get a blitz PGN format without the actual board appearing for past blitz games, but that is not the same.Unless I am doing something wrong which is remotely possible, because I just had a brand new desktop installed and I am still
trying to figure out all the bells and whistles on my monster with 12 cores.

Just my 2 euro's worth of opinion.

Oh..one other thing.
Like other blitz sites, one should be able to instantly see their new blitz rating change as well as their opponents blitz rating on the real live board as their games go on.Some sites only provide a provisional 1200 until established after 20 or 25 games. That is ok as well. But simply having ones
GK long game rating on a blitz board....not ok.Sure,I can click on the players name before or
after the game starts, but that takes time and "time"wasted to check on something, even 3 seconds can cost a player a game, especially in 3 to 5 minute games with no increment.

I have had several blitz players "see"my 2400+ long rating appear on their blitz board and they
immediately canceled the game.I don't blame them! But,if they would have seen my present
1700+real blitz rating,I am fairly sure they would have not canceled the game.

It would be nice if there was a "lobby", where you could see which other players were hanging out in live chess... I haven't looked at it yet, so maybe there is something like this.

Yes,its all new and I am sure things will get better as time goes on.
And do not misunderstand me,I am very happy with the new rated blitz.
But,I have been on many blitz sites over the decades and have seen it all,
including being able to "hover in"and watch a live blitz game as if you were
part of an audience.I do not expect that to happen here and that is ok.
Other options, from selecting blitz rating parameters before the blitz
search begins,(like 1800-2100 only)to even selecting which countries
you want an opponent(like Finland or Germany)is possible, but that
is usually only with a pure blitz site that has thousands upon thousands
of blitz players and no long game options as GK has had for years.
Still,if rated blitz gets promoted on GK and the word gets out, there
could conceivably be a huge expanse of incoming players in the
thousands and things could perk up drastically. But in reality,
the true serious blitz players, unlike the novices demand many more
options that GK will probably never have.

I think it would be a great idea if the new rated blitz would have a leader board like they have in the ladder games. This way you can tell who is in the top spots in rating at the time. This offers much insight into many players and brings them out of the shadows. Now,I suggest not a perpetual update like they do have on other serious blitz sites(yes!)...but perhaps a GK computer search update once every month or so,since ratings do change all the time.It should only be searched by the GK system AFTER,say,25 games played or more by any player. This gives more of an established rating, rather than a provisional.
