tugger 18-Apr-10, 11:33	I would imagine you have considered the obvious, ie making an error typing the password. I sometimes fail to log in if I type my password before the page has fully loaded, so perhaps waiting for ten seconds or so before typing your password will help. If that doesn't help, then it might be a problem with your browser or cookies, which is not anything I can help with, but I'm sure someone can.
baronderkilt 18-Apr-10, 11:51	I am NOT the computer Expert ... so I will only tell you what it might be on MY computer: 1) I think others may tell you to make sure your browser is up to date. Firefox recently upgraded & MS went to IE8. Tho I have no problem logging on here with New FF, old FF, Safari, IE7, or I believe also Opera. * 2) Be sure to erase all the password before reentering it 20 times. lol [Joking, I know you did this] 3) Be sure to see that USER ID is spelled right! sometimes I miss this. 4) If you are running Windows Media player in background, it often interferes or delays logins to sites. Must be shut-off till after log in. 5) If you are running certain Chess engine minimized in background, I have had it interfere with my blitz board. Only heaven knows what else it might affect. So to shut those off after you Warm-up your chess play, & sign on, to see. * 6) Look what else you are running & be sure it is not interfering or monopolizing your cpu time then. Minimize Task Manager first, then it can be pulled up even during delay, unlike with CNTL/ALT/DEL method. Then see what is using most resources. It may even be Firefox, who like AOL, seem to like to Upgrade/download to customers whenever it pleases them, without saying Please or May I. Anyway, shut off or lower Priority on anything running big cpu #'s that is not related to your sign on. * 7) What ever broswer you Are using, try turning up its Process on Task Manager to "HIGH" before you log in, and it will get precedence over other programs that might clock you if not. ** 8) Do whatever heinzkat says here~! Or ganstaman ... or bogg ... or alberlie or ...MyWife (yeah, you got it or .... ** G/L }8-D

lighttotheright 18-Apr-10, 15:30	Cookies might be a contributing factor, but it sounds like multiple problems to me - especially if you actually get logged on after 20 tries. Filled Ram because of too many programs running can do it too. In such circumstances, the computer gets too busy to recognize one or more keystrokes before you press enter. In such a case, you want to cleanup your start-up menu else it will continue to happen on a regular basis. Usually when I have problems logging on to a site it's simply because I accidentally hit the CAPS LOCK key. That one is easy to fix. Programs that will clear out cookies can sometimes also help you fix the start up menu. Spybot search and destroy can be a big help, but I'm hesitant to recommend it anymore because too many knock offs with similar names will actually download malware onto your computer. Whatever program you use, make sure you know what you are doing. For malware checks and fixes, simply download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It can fix problems that other programs cannot, including Spybot. Best of all, it is free.

tugger 20-Apr-10, 08:06	Computers are like gear boxes to me. If it's broke, someone else can fix it while I drink tea. And they can "show" me how to fix it next time it happens, but it's like trying to teach me Korean. Cookies? They're for dunking in tea. Get ones with no nuts on.
sagwa 25-Apr-10, 04:35	I can log in on Firefox but not on Internet Explorer I always could get on this site using my password in Internet Explorer. Now I can only get on it using Firefox. I tried the cookie thing they suggested. Still can not log in on IE. Says password or user name don't match. How do I get this fixed? Could any one help me, please. sagwa

tactical_abyss 25-Apr-10, 06:37	Being from the old school I know little about computers or internet servers,but I have always used IE with never any problems.With no problems,then I would have no logical reason to go to Firefox.Whenever I have a problem,however,I call on my nephew who is a computer Einstein to say the least.He has more computer degree's than can fill a burn barrel.Pehaps you can find someone like that to give you hands on analysis,sagwa?Sometimes asking in a forum,will not be enough. Years ago when I had a laptop,I had some multiple problems and my nephew simply used "system restore" to an approx.date where I had NO problems,and everything went back to the way it was and "normal"again.System restore may take up additional memory or slow your system down a tiny bit,but then you may not have any more problems,atleast. As to logging in to GK,using passwords,ect.....I never do that.I never log out! GK is in my favorites list.I simply click on to the favorites list and my personal game list pop right up,no logging in or password necessary.
tugger 25-Apr-10, 07:02	Sagwa... simple... use Firefox! Sounds to me like issues with your browser, so if you have no problems with Firefox, then dump IE. Are you having problems logging into other sites on IE? If so, then I'd suggest removing IE and reinstalling it, that might fix it. If it's just GK, then I'm as baffled as you. But if you're having no problems with FF, it might just be easier to forget IE even exists.
kingdawar 25-Apr-10, 10:30	My guess is that a wrong password has been stored somewhere that is filled in automatically for you every time you try to visit gameknot.com
