How Much Chess ?! It's depressing me ~!
Call this THREAD:
"How Much Chess" and also "Strange, quirky, unexpected, unusual or just notable for a mention STATS from your play" . . . Any Milestones, toss em in here ! Or LISTS of Who, What, Stuff . Or any odd notable things.

I want to know how much Chess people play in their LIFE, or MOST INTENSE PERIOD (be it year, week, Month or Eon-Of-Blue-Moons) or WHATEVER ...
*****************************************************
Have you played a NAKED GAME with that one fem-fatal with a FIDE Title, who is noted as devoted total to praise and promotion of a certain deceased French player, who's name I cannot recall either. [I just remembered, I DID one day, but only non-cam Net games. YES to Strip Chess but never got Buffed on that myself.]

Obviously she needs to work on that part, tho does have a book authored about what's his name, I do believe. "Du-something" maybe? DuChessnee !? Anyway, his greatest fame was being painted while playing vs a nude fem; and so she did Turn-About of that. Tho I cannot call it "fair-play" turn-About since she made him start from a Lost Position of a known game (by Somebody-Something, I think)

OK anyway, I do some my Milestones as a Post Coming, since I know me best. But you can do you , but also ANYONE such as "GM's who offered to play strapped to an ambulance-board or stretcher and were refused" ...
**********
Give that STAT = 2 that I know of. GM Tony Miles of England, and (of course, you Knew there had to be at LEAST One Time, for ... ) GM Mikhail Tal of USSR at the time. "The Magician From Riga".
****
GM's who said, "I WILL NOT STAND For THIS ~!!" , or should have since it would have immortalized him with the Quote! ... when refusing a FIDE urine sampling. Count 1 for Ivanchuk (and a Cheer for that!) Any more?
***************************************
I FOUND this very interesting LIST TOO. All persons known primarily as Chess Players; who have made an English Wikipedia Article ~! hmmmm

Tried to figure out how many games I ever played ...
And that is what is depressing me, as it seems low ... calculated up to 40,514 so far ... using LOTs of Guestimations to even get there.
****
At GK 130 Corr games; and I guess it at perhaps 3000 blitzy types here. Another site I have blitz/lightning/& 10 mins record of:

+18,245 -6764 =418 for total there of 25,427

Adding in gets up to 28,557

And had over 300 USCF Tournaments in one decade, guessing to avg 4 games per = 1200 more.
29,627 and then I add in Postals surely Skittles must exceed all others. ...
Anyway got to 40,514 ... but feeling it should be over 60K is nagging me.

Hey, how about you tag1153 !? With all your touranaments, and GK games and Skittles ...
Have you played 100,000 ?!! HOW about ANYONE? blackbaron ? cheeky_knight?
WHO can be first to claim 100000.00 GAMES ?

F O U R =
How many $2 Chess Sets you must by in 1968 before you have all the Rules of Chess ; rules of the game, not Tournament Chess ... which requires a BOOK of course. .BUT, that is an actual & true STAT ... and I was still Taking Kings for several years.

What a rude awakening when an opponent said I must TRAP his King and Check it ... wha wha what !?

Lost count,but....
Playing chess since 1964.USCF life member/GK life member.Member of most of the chess sites both corresp and blitz on/off over the decades.Postal chess since the mid 1960's to 1998.Chess trainer and referee at the Manhattan/Marshall clubs and college.More blitz games than probably fills a sand timer with grains of sand both OTB and Corresp.Sometimes playing online blitz for 6 hours straight.Playing at the chess club in High School for 4 years.Playing at the college chess club for 4 years.Playing chess at the local pub every weekend.Playing against hundreds of opponents at Washington Square park over the last 20+years and playing countless games to improve against 15 different tabletop computers like the Tasc R-30 and the Chesster Phantom Eyeball.Counltess games against Fritz & Shredder software. And countless games played against myself!

Conclusion: Approx 500,000 games played in my lifetime(at the very least!).And that is a conservative count.Could be 600-700,000 games played.

Keeping track?
I am puzzled as to why you would keep a mental tally of how many games you've played. Aren't there enough mundane details to keep track of already? Birthdays, appointments, etc - I know are brains are capable, but why push it?

There have been periods of my life where I played 8 hours day for 6 or 8 hours a day. The problem was I kept playing the same people. I think they brought my game down more than I brought theirs up. I have chessmaster 10000, and according to it, when I play tournaments, I'm valued at 1531. Yet, when I take the challenge, it tells me I'm a candidate for master, rating around 1950.

I suspect that's the difference between focusing and just playing for amusement. I see moves I make on the 2-D board I would NEVER make over an actual board and pieces. At least, I don't think I would. I sure hope I wouldn't.

The whole timed play thing - especially with multiple games - it's quite interesting - I find it hard to remember what I had planned on a given game by the time my opponent makes his move.

Works my brain a bit, which I guess is why I'm playing.

Why keep tract ukaserex?
No ones really keeping track, you miss the point.Baron and me were sort of just indulging in
speculative "amusement" in conjunction with chess games and amounts.Kind of like....how many times does the average person breathe in a lifetime,or turn in their sleep?Or how many "beers"does the average country boy drink in his lifetime? So,no one is really "pushing it"as you say.Does that unpuzzle you?Sometimes it just cool to think about such things and post them.Took me all but 10 seconds to take a guess on my game "estimate".
Other details like birthdays, appointments and more are much more work to remember or write down!Heck,my birthday was the other day and forgot about it!Ha ha!

Milestones
How many people remember their first game of chess ,
My best friend taught me , it took me 22 games @ school to beat him , he has never beat me since and never lets me forget who taught whom ,
I also remember my first decent game against my history teacher , a guy who opened my eyes to chess , i kept this game but cannot find it anywhere in my old notes ,
I wonder why other people started playing chess ,
