a novelty from KID?
Think me stumbled upon this novelty:

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nf3 Bg7 4.g3 O-O 5.Bg2 d6 6.O-O Nc6 7.Nc3 a6 8.b3 Nxd4 in w/c 8...Nxd4 is the novelty. The move is not even in the GK database.

And methinks the best move for white would be 9.e3.

Anybody who wants to be the devil's advocate on this one would be most welcome.

9.Qxd4 or 9. Nxd4 appear fine to me. 9.Nxd4 looks safer imo

If you can make it work for black more power to you

@ketchuplover re: a novelty from KID?
9.Qxd4 c5 and white has only 2 squares to retreat, d3 or d2, or lose his knight. if 10.Qd3, then 10...Bf5, attacking his queen again. If 10.Qd2 (to avoid being attacked by black's bishop, then 10...Ne4, pinning the rook while also attacking the knight.

if 9.Nxd4 then c5 (attacking his knight) 10.Nc2(so as not to block his bishop) d5 11.cxd5 Nxd5 12.Bxd5 Bxc3 13.Rb1 Qa5.

Anybody else who wants to be the devil's advocate would be most welcome.

9.Nxd4 then c5 (attacking his knight) 10.Nc2(so as not to block his
bishop) Bf5...must be the best move for black...

what do the commenters here think?

I think you are missing something here.
even after 9. Qxp c5. 10. Qd2 Ne4 11. NxN BxR 12. Nc3 white has 2 pieces for a rook and a pawn. Mathematically the material is even, but I would prefer white. Also keep in mind the position has a closed character which favors the minor pieces.
.....
But even better may be 10. Qe3 White is intending Bb2 and moving his rook to safety. Seems like white is just up a piece for a pawn.
